Yeah I miss that. I got some fimo soft to try wrapping the armature (I hate green stuff) so will let you know how that goes.

Bit more on the new fella:

The barbarian is great, looks like he just stepped out of a Frazetta painting. This new project is shaping up nicely too, giving off a strong Nurgle vibe.

Thanks guys, glad you like the barbarian. I did intend to finish the wizard tonight and start painting the barbarian/boobies... but this little fella is just proving to be too much fun!

Added some more gubbins here: the left arm is just a place holder at the mo (haven't baked him at all yet, so needed the support).

....aaand I went with the Ork. I did consider a beast, a gorilla, or a nurgly thing, but in the end I started mucking about with this hobby because of the green fellas, so thought it was time I made one.

The face, right arm, shoulders and oh, a bunch of stuff is still not finished. Quite pleased with the mechanical arm so far though...

Ha! Thanks Digga old chum. Yes, this'll be a power claw - I've put some blades on here just for size/placement. Also finished the head - I'm pleased with this one, It captures the manic gleeful luck I wanted.

I have a bit of a bonkers plan for the right shoulder too - big question is: what do I do with his right hand? Blade/axe, gun, or open hand?

Thanks guys, I appreciate your kind words. I've done a little more - a gun here. Unfortunately he has a bit of a tan from an overly hot oven: thankfully not harmed though.

and here's the first part of my plan for his right shoulder - a shoulder gunner! Because why not.

To to start with I need to make a wee goblin type figure. As usual (though much smaller), here's the process:

1. Make an armature:

2. Compare for size. Although the big fella is 50mm to the eyes, I imagine he's a big boss version of the 35mmscale, so the goblin gunner has to be smaller than a 'regular' Ork. This is a lovely retro one I got from an eBay bundle, and confirms that the goblin is no more than about 20mm.

3. Coat in green stuff for strength:

4. Add sculpey while the GS is still sticky, shape, and done. Still needs a head, arms, and a big monster gun to shoot, but still...

5. And give him a bit of a builder's bum, just because.

So: a shoulder gunner goblin. Too much?

I'm glad you like him folks - he does feel like an improvement over previous sculpts.

@Foxtail: I agree - the more gubbins the better! Plus it's a good exercise for practicing smaller details.

@WGS: I've no idea what a squig looks like, but sure, why not!

@Saint: glad you like the gun - I was worried it was too cartoonish to suit the rest of the model.

@fluisterwood: thanks, man. In all the extra bits it's easy to forget the Ork underneath, but I hope the pose works too.

@Rotten - thanks - means a lot coming from an awesome sculptor like yourself.

There'll be more updates on the Ork this week no doubt, but I gave the modelling a rest tonight and broke out the paints. I'm not enjoying the freehand on the wizard, so thought I'd give the barbarian a go instead. It feels weird to paint a full model and not a bust - it's been a long time!

this is really just blocking in, and a bit of shadow on the skin/face.
