I've noticed that one of the bottom straps is square (the left one) and all the others are pointy. is it supposed to be like that?

Time for a bit of an update and a question the base does it need another section on top of the skull block?

the extra bit isnt finished off its very rough he will be holding his rifle across his belly too so what do ya think extra or not?

I'm the opposite. I like it without the extra. Busts aren't ment to be tall, that's why they are busts. Excellent work Cass. One o these days i shall ask for a commission piece if your still doing them :)

honestly. i think the lower part is unnecessary, and that the whole piece would look better with the torso just attached to a clean wooden plinth. to me, its just getting too cluttered and looks a bit... well... strange... that said, of couse its a really really awesome job youve done cassar. glad you didnt stop :)

Hmm food for thought indeed im not really enamoured of the tall version, the directly ontop of the skull block does look "busy" i have a third option that i will post later once i've had a good look at all options.

Here is the other option i was considering, and a more tidy looking full plinth.

Its hard to tell really at this stage as he hasnt got the rifle and hands etc across his belly yet. Im going to have a look online and see what other bust bases are out there.

I have done some fiddling and shortened the waist piece its a lot better looking now i am happy enough its a matter of what the commisionee thinks. in the meantime "back to the bat cave!" and finish off the arms and hands tonite i hope to have the full pose sorted. Cheers all for the advice :)

Well here's a few overall mock up shots, personally i think the top section being shorter and fatter works well (opinions please) i have quite a lot of work yet to do for the arms, cuffs and the hands but you can get the overall impression of what the finished article will look like from these pics.

I wonder if you're not going to have too tuck the butt stock into the body and under the shoulder abit more to get the fingers wrapped around the handle and in the trigger guard. I'm also seeing a tight sling or possibly a longer one, carrying the rifle in a ready position in front of the body.

Something along these lines. Either way, looking good.

I agree something looks off. I am trying to envision a situation where I would have a rifle at waist level with it perfectly parallel to the shoulders and can not. Maybe just pull the stock back toward the hip would help this.

Oh, and I think the current plinth works best of the options you have tried (assuming a good paint job ;)).

Again, I really like this sculpt.

I know what you mean chaps its just the constraints of the belt pouches and the fact that the eye seems to be thrown by a lack of anything below the waist.

HAIL HYDRA!!!

I think that the last picture of yours hit the nail on the head for the rifle placement Cassar, He's at a 40K version of "Inspection Arms!" Ie. Bolt open and ready to be taken out of his arms by the inspector.
