None of the real boots on the ground will lay claim, they know their family will have a bullseye on them if they did.
I wish they didn't bury him at sea so fast, let other countries, press, or whoever see the body so we don't have another conspiracy theory started.
I understand they buried him at sea cause they didn't want the terrorist to make a shine out of his grave but if that was the cause maybe they should have buried him at the south pole. Just think how many terrorist would die looking to find it.

I agree with Vikey. He was a bad man and the world is better without him, and we can stop pouring resources into finding him, but his death is not something to celebrate. His capture would have been. His trial would have been something.
I was disappointed in the President's speech. He could have made a nod to "America is a country that honors the rule of law and we would have preferred to capture him and let him face justice, but he declared war on America and when America struck back, he became a casualty."

I didn't celebrate when Timothy McVeigh was executed, and I'm not going to celebrate this one. I don't celebrate the execution of a criminal. There's no reason to give them so much prestige. It needed to be done, but so does taking out the trash.

Yeah, I believe it would have been quite difficult to actually find a neutral judge and jury...

I hate to be skeptical, but the timing of this is suspect at least. What a boost to the sitting President's ratings, just in time for the whole campaigning season.
I'm not downplaying the efforts of any of the troops involved (U.S. or otherwise). I've served, and I have nothing but respect for those who do. But politics is a dirty game, and here in the U.S. it's gotten dirtier than most.

Don't worry. Faking this would be such a risky gambit that only a complete moron would even risk it. Look how bad President Bush was lambasted for his "Mission Accomplished" episode. I would think anyone with half a brain would understand that if Bin Laden were to resurface after this story it would bury the president. No joke, if it turned out he was lying it would be a worse scandal than Watergate. It's too big a risk for a president to take, especially when the political landscape for 2012 was looking pretty rosy.
Before worrying about conspiracies ask the why of something done. Conspiracy Theorists spend far too long trying to figure out the how, and not nearly enough time on why. As in, why the hell would the US government lie about Big Foot when they promote the discovery of new species. Same as this scenario. Why would the White House need to lie about something like this? What's to be gained, really? There's far too much to be lost.

Good point. I agree that he's more than likely shuffled off this mortal coil. It's just a matter of when. Did it really happen just now? Did they really just find him? I don't want to sound like a conspiracy nutjob, it's just hard to take anything at face value anymore.

Meh, something about it all doesn't sit right with me though tbh. Far from being a conspiracy theorist, I still smell a rat somewhere.
This whole US mil only OP seems off, the fact the intel was exclusive only to the US... Sure, could be they wanted to be the only ones to get credit for it, means their asses are covered if they fuck up, no one else to say what the casualties actually were, etc; Tidy little publicity mill... Generally that's not how it works, though.
I suspect this story about a woman being used as a human shield was at least bent to an angle to drum up even more public support for killing him while trying to maybe imply he died a coward and not a Martyr. See, if this is the top dog, Allahs 2IC, as fanatical as they come, i'd expect him to be striving to die in some glorious fashion? Non?
In the same vein, seems odd to me he never had some sort of counter measure. Lets face it, he was an evil bastard, but he wasn't stupid. Surprised he didn't attempt to blow himself up or something when forces breached the building. Especially given the fact (if anything else) He would know the recovery of his body by Allied forces would be a fine trophy for them to hang on the mantle piece.
Although oddly there's no evidence of that either.

Admittedly, there are a lot of questions that we don't have the answers to. I won't say it reeks like the French Quarter, but some things seem uncharacteristic. According to the news I've read Bin Laden had spent the last six months at this location even though he's been known to change locations much more regularly. Why did he sit in one spot for so long? (though it is very considerate of him to have done that)
As for why the US Navy Seals, and no one else, were used: Maybe secrecy? It's easier to keep an operation secret when there are no other units involved, and even easier when there are no other nations involved. Perhaps they were trying to keep the training and preparation under the radar?
As for why a human shield may have been used: We don't really know what went on in his head. We don't know if he was brave, a coward, desperate, or confident that he could escape. Perhaps he didn't value the human shield's life, or perhaps he felt it was a risk worth taking.

Well if there is a conspiracy the target would be to bring down Obama - nothing else. But I don't believe that.
I am however fascinated with conspiracy theories and especially the time and effort people put into their "research". I've read everything from denying of holocaust, moonlanding, evolution, global warming. Illuminati, Bilderberg group, JFK conspiracies, and our own Swedish conspiracy surrounding Olof Palme. It's fun to see the similarities even if some parts of it is really disheartening and can breed cynicism.

Staying in one place for 6 months in a very notable house not far outside the main Pakistani mil training facility, no less. He had balls, that's for sure, or insurances. Whichever.
Conceeded, a high profile OP may have minimal participation, but if I was PM I wouldn't be impressed at a casual early hours call stating Osama is dead..."Yeah we'd known where he was for a while, just didn't think you needed to know." Just on the silly off chance the PM will tell old Bin Laden that uncle Sam is on the way and to prepare tea for 2. It just doesn't go down like that, things are still usually cascaded on a "need to know" clearance.
If we've learned anything, it's pretty much that he has very little regard for any life that wasn't dedicated to his faith...and even then... Still, anyone would hopefully realise that if you've been alerted to people moving in on you in a compound, you're pretty much f*cked, (Given that the whole point with SF is they won't know you're there untill they want you to) unless you make like a mole or something. The pieces just don't seem to click. If he knew he was going to die (and i'm assuming that's a safe bet) he'd want to leave some sort of mark as a last stand as an example to his would be followers, surely?
