Black NMM?

Hi how you guys doing, first post on CMON out several years of coming on to the site, anyway.

Ive decided to begin painting a Black Templar army and decided to use Black NMM for the Emperors Champions sword.

This will be my first attempt at NMM and any advice and some pictures of some Black NMM would be helpful.

I plan on using Vallejo paints, either the model set or the game set, once i figure out the main differance other than colors.

Hiya, if you want it to look like a black metal (as opposed to glossy black paint) I think you should try to find some pics of blackened ironwork and similar to use as reference.

But considering how stylised most NMM is on fantasy minis you could just go with whatever you like. I\'d keep it pretty dark myself - so that it looks \'black\' - and use light highlights sparingly.

You might try adding a little blue to the mixes instead of just using a black + white mixture.

I\'d suggest purple instead of blue. I think it makes for a richer metallic black.

(for fabric black I like to use green as a highlight)

When doing black NMM you still need to take the highlights all the way to white (or very close to it at least), otherwise it won\'t look like metal. What you should do is make the highlights more \'narrow\' if you understand what I mean. The transitions from black to white shouldn\'t cover too large areas.

I\'ve done not quite black, but dark steel NMM on a few spots on this mini:

if you want to see what I mean.

Hope this helps!
