Black Templar Chaplain/Reclusiarch conversion

Playing with conversions today and got this guy to a point I\'m happy with. There\'s still some greenstuff work to come -- going to give him vestments and do something on his legs.

No backpack on him at the moment as I will make it magnetic so I can swap those with the Marshal. He\'ll wind up being able to use one of the jump packs or the BT backpack.

I would love some feedback on this one.

very nice. some mold lines still visible buts its a wip sooooo. dunno about the purity seals only on the back looks cluttered but that might be because theres no Backpack.
cant wait till its painted.

@WingZ: well... his Crozius is a modified BT axe -- his left hand is holding the BT lantern.

@COG: yeah, still a few mould lines to take care of. The seals do look less cluttered with a backpack in place -- but LOTS of seals also ties him to the rest of the army. The Emperor\'s Champion model has 12 on him and it worked out just fine (I think so anyway).

Thanks for the feedback.

Can you do anything about the legs, to me it looks like they are a little close together - like he\'s almost kicking his own feet when he walks. Otherwise I think he\'s going to look cool

@Evil Bones: Aw, you\'re nice :)

@freakinacage: EXACTLY! Although I think I may have to choose between pointing and holding something. I actually picked up a camping lantern in my garage and removing a finger from the carrying ring, pointing, and then putting my finger back was more difficult than I thought it would be. Of course I\'m not a space marine but....

@Manus: Nope, no sir, nothing I can do. It\'s my only complaint with the new Dark Angel robe bits. The running legs do look like he\'s about to knock himself over.

Thanks yet again for the feedback.

Anyone have an opinion on the skull shoulder? The skull on his knee? How about the plasticard bits?

OK MJ - you asked for it! :p

I don\'t like:

* The skull on the kneepad.
Although I can\'t see it all that well so I may change my mind if you can get a decent shot of it.
* The plasticard RIM around the right pad is fine, but I think the rivets on it and around the body/neck piece look way too big.
* The lantern-wotsit looks fine from the side, but from the front view it doesn\'t look right - again, it may just be the photo.

I DO like:
* The actual lantern itself.
* The skull shoulder pad
* The crozius/power axe
* Whatever that cool skull helmet is from

I think this could end up looking great :)

My main gripe really is merely the size of those platicard rivets. :)

@DaN: The rivets on the right pauldron aren\'t actually going to be rivets. Simply decorative fobs. The ones on his neck: see below. Same with the skull knee -- let me know what you\'re thinking at this point and THANK YOU for the direct feedback :)

I have removed each and every seal on this conversion.

In turn I went out and picked up some Magic-Scult so that I could do the chain around his waist and then file it smooth. I also added the seals to his neck... but also in Magic-Sculpt which I\'ll probably regret later.

I plan on adding some icons to the chain that comes down on to the robe. I might also re-attach the seals on his right shoulder.

The putty under the skull will (hopefully) be carved in to imperial wings after the putty has had 24 hours to completely cure.

Better and moving in the right direction?

i like all the purity seals removed.
the seals on the neck look better. may be a b:cussing:tch to letter though.
the left shoulder pad skull??? someone knock out all his teeth and upper jaw to the nostral opening?
as for the sculpting chain...ever try any of the chain used to build model ships?
it comes in different sizes.
looking good

Thanks for the excellent feedback. I\'ve made some changes based on what folks have said here and at Relic. It really is much appreciated.

  • Replaced the sculpted chain with actual chain
  • Added the skull and shield to the chain
  • Replaced the off sized arm on the crozius
  • Resculpted the decoration on the left leg
  • Sculpted TEMPLAR on to the right pauldron
  • Resculpted left hand to be closed instead of pointing
  • Modeled with magnetic backpacks in place

@OrkBoy: Oh, no paint yet. I need to finish painting my Emperor\'s Champion before I start in on this fella. I\'m also not sure whether or not there will be more little bits and pieces to fiddle with. I\'m still poking at him.

@Manus: That\'s a product called Magic-Sculpt. Another two part resin epoxy but much cheaper than anything else I\'ve encountered. I have enough to last me literally years and I\'m out $13 for it.

With the Emperor\'s Champion on the clean-up table I\'ve moved on to this guy. I hope to have him finished this weekend so I can start in on my actual squards in the next week or so.

Although I\'m doing my army with only out of the pot paints I think I\'ll go back in and redo the skull helmet properly. I\'m okay with the rest of it but I think that bit really needs to pop.

Still very rough on the white -- that\'s the first layer -- and a long way to go on the whole model.

I\'d love more feedback, of course.

I am liking the colour scheme :) Especially the Maltese cross on the cloak.

I\'m glad the huge round bits of plasticard are gone :) And the sculpted chain was quite good imo - although the real chain is better :)

i am doing a similar conversion, with a power axe arm, with banner top head and helbrechts backpack. and a bare chaos head. This is the similar image i had of templar chaplains, bringing light to dark places. will comment later (i don\'t know how to vote:()
