Blood Raven army log

The metal on the Dread\'s upper leg areas looks very blue. Is this an effect you have painted on or just down to something during photography? If it is painted I\'d suggest trying to work in some reds to look like the armour colour is being reflected, otherwise it may end up looking a little odd.

The blue tinting is from the photography. I\'m not sure where it came from... possibly from the colour adjustments. The only toning on the metals has been with browns and blacks so there really shouldn\'t be any blue in there.

hey

dready legs are looking good. what glazes are you going to use? i use an ink mix i call \"oil\" (not surprisingly), its a mix of 2 parts black ink and 1 part chestnut ink. it makes a lovely used oil colour.

@JoD: Well my first coat was actually more or less what you use for your oil... I used black ink and brown ink water and accidentally got a little boltgun in there but it worked pretty well. my second wash was black ink and scorched brown... and I\'ll do a straight black once im sure the paint is dry here, then probably another \"oil\" wash but more controlled after some more highlighting.

Washing with watery Scorched Brown is amazing, it looks dusty and dirty all at once. Very good color to work with.

I am not sure how dirty you want it to look, but a little bit of purple ink goes a long way. I have have some good success with a bit of that on my Iron Warriors. That dread is an awesome conversion BTW

Well I think today is gonna be more of a building than painting day. I did a little work on the legs but not much so I didnt bother taking a picture. They seem rougher today than they were yesterday.
Here\'s a pic of my scouts

Thanks for looking.

*edit* Well I\'m not really looking for \"dirty\" more like well used... It\'s a venerable dread so I figure its been around for a looong time so it\'d be fairly broken in, but also kept in good condition. I\'m gonna go for an oily metallic on the legs, and maybe a dirtier metallic on the feet. The conversion still has a little ways to go, I want to add a tabard hanging from the torso, and there are still a few bits i want to add (purity seals, icons, etc)

Well I havent painted anything but I\'ve more or less based these guys. They still need a bit more sand in places but other than that they\'re good. I\'m not sure on the sergeants base... I like it individually but I\'m not sure it really matches the rest of them. I\'m also thinking of taking out one of the plasma pistols and replacing it with a flamer, but I dont really know... I really should work out my army list BEFORE I build my models... lol

Hehe that might be a good idea ;)

I like the base of the Sergeant, just make sure you paint the rubble the same colors for everybody and he\'ll fit in nicely.

Is the one on the left standing on footballs? Bloodbowl ftw ;)

Naw. See this way I can constantly rip off arms and put new ones on. Especially when I actually bother to pin them, or use plastic glue lol.
The one on the left is standing on a beaky head. I dont know why but I just dont like them... I\'ve only used one and it was on a veteran.

*edit* Well the sergeant looks better in real life, also hes just pinned losely right now, but hes half running up it and half jumping down off it lol. All the while preparing to smash in someones face with his powerfist.

@DAn: It looks like it is leaping to crush someone\'s head with that Power Fist that he is cocking back... at least that\'s what i looks like to me...

Emo... looking very nice, can\'t wait for you to start painting these bastards!

I\'ll probably be doing a lot of painting this weekend. I\'ve got my last two midterms this week. One I\'m not worried about (Psyc.) and the other has me rather worried (Anatomy). Come this weekend if I\'m still functioning I\'ll try to get my librarian complete (well, as complete as he\'ll be until I can snag one of those nifty servo skulls for a familiar...) and hopefully move on to the rest of the dread as well as start the veteran sergeant.

I could get you one of those Familiars, they look cool but I don\'t see me actually putting them on a model anytime soon :D

Thanks for the offer Dan, I might take you up on it if I don\'t end up with a box of devestators this weekend. I did a quick photoshopping to see which one I liked more... I\'m leaning towards the one with the halo, what do the rest of you think?
