BloodFather's Axis of Chaos

Still, sad to see such a beautifully created world go by the wayside. I cannot believe that this will be replaced by "bubbles of reality that come into collision" to explain why battles start. So stupid. I've heard why GW is doing this. And maybe this is truly just a death flail. But just throw in the towel altogether. Good news for a painter is that they plan to release more minis, more character types, on limited runs, so that should mean more plastic to paint. But at such a cost???

I need to find another world to interest me, it seems...

I know, I heard the same thing. Though I doubt they will completely abandon the fluff and story telling aspect of the fantasy world. It's still an interesting move. There's a lot of motivation to keep a gaming world/universe stagnant so I respect that they had the guts to make some major changes (even if it's in part to make way for more 30K products). I'm curious to see where they go with it.

Have you looked at Privateer Press much? The whole Warmachine, Hordes, and Iron Kingdoms world has some cool back story (and some neat figures too). And with Kickstarter and Indiegogo there seems to be a continuous supply of new games and figure ranges to pick from. As I recall, you were working on one of the Mierce Miniatures pieces a little while back. I really dig their chaos and beastmen figures. Not a lot of fluff to go along with it, but neat sculpts that can fit into many games.

Kinda leaning towards Mierce actually. Problem is, nobody has heard of them around me, and there
just isn't enough fluff out there on them. Happens when the owner/creator does everything himself.

Edit: I wrote the above before reading what you said Bailey. You read my mind with Mierce. I guess I don't even really play, so it's not like I'll go around collecting and painting an Army. Still, I had fun at least following Warhammer Fantasy. Mierce can't duplicate such a strong back story unless they hire a creative team on par with GW.

And yes I know GW won't stop producing fluff for their armies. But in a world which is some primordial sea of nothingness, some extra planar hogwash...er... No thanks.

Ha, well great minds think alike. And I guess ours do too. While Mierce might not have as much fluff, they certainly are hard at work producing new figures. Seems like every 6 months they do another kickstarter and I think they're pretty good at getting those products into the online store too.

But, if you want something with a more well developed world (and probably people playing near you), take a look at Warmachine/Hordes. My two favorite figures from that range are Lich Lord Terminus and the Harbinger of Menoth. If you're not familiar with them, take a look at some versions on the gallery. I could definitely see you having fun with Terminus. I've got both in my collection and I'll get around to doing them one of these days. Thagrosh the Messiah is also really neat.

One of the nice things about warhammer (and to a lesser extent warmachine, malifaux, infinity, and others) is that even if you don't play, a lot of people do and therefore there's a bigger audience that will appreciate the figures. It does seem like GW has written themselves into a corner with the story line, but it's fantasy so you're just one magic spell away from bringing the floating orbs world together for a complete reboot. If the fans don't like where the story goes, I have a feeling they'll find a way to fix it.

You can spend a week looking at amazing sculpts from all sorts. I have nothing to add just agree, I have a soft spot for infinity but not actually painted any but have a few on the shelf.
your NM is looking fantastic really coming along.

I've heard similar ideas, too. And it was all just a dream...lol. One of my favorite things about WHF was how their world matched up with ours, but it was just a Gothic, magical version. This is why Mierce appeal to me the most, because it follows this script without relying on a conventional fantasy structure of elves and dwarves.

Funny thing about Mierce. Over on Dakka I actually bashed them. Very badly. I basically put it down for being confusing and strange. I also stated that it was impossible to get a feel for the factions because the descriptions on the website were poorly written and archaic. And I still believe they should be rewritten to read a bit friendlier. I also said that the sculpt's were great, but that many were just too out there for me. But the creator of the line immediately answered by defending what Mierce was to me. He said that he wanted to be different, that if you wanted a world of elves and dwarves etc, that there are plenty of them out there, take your pick. He also stated that he admits the terminology can be initially a little off-putting, but that they were taken from historical sources and they grow on you. So I took a longer look at the line and each of the factions, and I started to notice the distinctive traits of each faction. And I surprised myself by really celebrating the uniqueness of his brand, and bizarreness. Well let me just say that it made his day to find that he made a believer out of someone that was once disgusted by the brand.

Anyway, just an interesting side story. Warmachine? I'd probably play 40k first, though I do like their Soviet type faction. Hordes never grew on me either...but as you say...maybe it's time to move on. I will def look at those sculpt's you mentioned because I'm still considering entering P3'd Lock and Load painting comp.

Okay, so I am going to clean up all of the gold, changing a couple of minor things just to crispen the details. Then I will add pure white dots in select locations, which should really help the gold sparkle. Then I am going to shade and sharpen the face. Still haven't decided on whether or not to add tattoos or to greenstuff some burn scars onto his face. I'm sure I'll give him at least one tattoo somewhere. Anyway, here is my "BEFORE" pic:

By the way, the animal skull looking thing on his left shoulder....thinking of using my copper recipe on it. I thought that maybe this could clash with the gold and brown things out too much, or that the pinkish highlights of the copper would look out of place. Not sure, I'll have to see, but what I will do is make my verdigris a strong blue tone to compliment all the brown/gold.

Lovely idear DR. I just put thought to that though and it won't work. If u look at the skull from other angles it is shaped like armor, so it just wouldn't look right as a real skull unless I did some GReenstuff surgery.

Looking good mate. Your style is reminding me of AndyG work, no bigger compliment.

Thank you, the highest of compliments indeed. I actually challenged Andy and 10Ball and others to a "Gold-Off" but they said something about the beauty of my gold frightens them? Whatever that means...:silly!:

Realistically though, it was silly of me to think they'd waste their time on a spring chicken like myself. I'll get there tho...

BFK you posted in another thread that you've been paying over the odds for brushes. I thought you might be interested in this Kickstarter.

They look like they are going to be pretty good brushes.

Thanks for this update and info. Was unaware of this KS. I'm a fan of Darklord over at WAMP, and I want only to see him succeed and do well. He has invested a ton of energy into the mini-painting hobby with his store, the forums, and WAMP ladder, and even a mini painting magazine!!! What is sad to me is the lack of traffic there anymore. You can see that things were very busy at WAMP in 2010-2012, but this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I've stopped posting my WIPs to the forums, simply because of a lack of traffic compared to CMoN and other places. I hope he can turn things around, and I'd ask everyone to please make their purchases from his store if he has what you are after.

Anyway, the brushes. They certainly look very good. While the cost of the W&N ($33 with shipping) was ridiculous, there simply isn't a finer brush on the market. I do not, however, like that I can't pick out the particular brush. We all know how individual brushes can be vastly inferior/superior to one another.

I will idefinitely give the brushes a chance when they end up in the wampstore. Until then, the wife would kill me if I spend even more $ on brushes-good deal or not :(

Couple of things to jump onto this thread with. The brushes for WAMP kickstarter are beign made by Rosemary & Co. So if you had any doubts, that company and their reputation should alleviate. Also, for anyone on Facebook, the Mierce site (Mierce Militia I believe they are called) are looking at giving away a mini or two once they hit 500 likes. It may be worth clicking like for the chance to get something free ;)

Think I got to side with DR on a bone skull. You can shade it sort of sepia and it tie in nicely with your pallet so far.
I didn't like the Rosemary brushes I got. Maybe I should try them again. As I recall, the bristles were nice and soft but not as laser straight as the WN's. I also got a Scharff from secret weapon, and it's pretty good, but really reminds me of a 6 month old WN. It's bristles are just a little coarse. I have an Isabey 2/00 that is very nice, but doesn't have enough belly for me. It's long though and makes a great liner.

Evil-Thanks brother. I'll have to pick up a few, but not as my primary standard brush. That will always be a #7 size 1 or 2. I still have been DYING to try out a Kolinsky Tajmyr though. Need someone from Spain to get me one from Scale75 and ship it to me.

Max-That wasn't intended to bash WAMP at all. I love WAMP and think Darklord is a great guy. It's true though, check out the forums over there. Used to be so active with Painting Ladders and cool competitions and a good magazine for mini painting....now this couldn't be further from the situation.

SkelletetS- Please stop by more often. You know how much I value your opinion. (I value everyone's, don't get me wrong here, I just love Skel's dark and brooding style). Anything you see on this guy ^^^ that jumps out at you?

Just don't think I can get the bone skull to work. If you look at the side of the mini you'll see that the skull is part of metal plates, with rivets in them. So if I paint the skull to look like bone, I will also be painting the armor panels on his shoulder a bone color.
