Break along seam - What to do?

I really need some wisdom here - I\'m working on an Ashan\'Tyr figure and the seam on the lower arm has split. On the image, it is located somewhere between the blue and tan bands on the upper left arm.

The upper arm is still firmly attached. This means I have a gaping seam on the lower arm that I have no idea how to fix, or to cover up.

I mixed the color used for this area and don\'t think I can duplicate it. I was thinking about breaking the bond on the upper arm, but I can\'t be sure that the paint will split evenly along the seam.

The figure is also probably 80% finished and I was really digging the results, so I would prefer not not strip and start again.

Does anyone know how to salvage the figure through a single seam repair?

by seam do you mean where the metal mold didnt set evenly together? ive encountered that a few times and ive simply rubbed super sculpty along the metal ridge and smoothed it out then hardened it with a blow dryer.

Hi Otter,

fill the gap with some putty or greenstuff then paint over it would be my thought. However, depending on how solid the join is, the very process of gap filling may loosen it too much and then you\'d have to take the arm off, clean the join and reglue. Then touch up the paint work. It might be best to varnish the model to protect it then do the necessary filling.

Hope this helps.

Otter, I\'ve got to say the same as Kat.
Without seeing the Mini I\'m having to hazard a guess and say it\'s the joint that\'s popped open. in which case there are a few liquid fillers on the market (Try Micro-mart.com) if all else fails try packing with a little \"No more nails\", finely finished off with an old brush to smooth.
Other than that it, would be biting the bullet to dip&strip it and start again.
Hope you manage to find a solution to the issue.

Thanks for the replies, but my problem is that I don\'t think I can remake the paint color I used to cover over the flaw in the arm. I was a fool and didn\'t keep any on hand.

It\'s basically this stupid, tiny little repair that needs to be done (or one day the arm-and-sword attachment might drop off), but I\'m stuck as to how to do it without disfiguring the paint that is already there.

I guess I should just try patching it and then spend a few hours trying to duplicate the paint color. She\'s got 6 hours of labor invested in her already, and it seems like such a trivial problem, but ARGH! So fustrating! :flame:

How about modelling a wound or scar?

Or maybe paint a tattoo or texture on some hair (duplicate on the other arm)?

Just looks a darkish blue-green to me.
Bit of green, bit of dark blue.....
Play around on a pallette.
Can\'t see how you\'re thinking hours mate.

Maybe stone green to white for hi-lights.
I\'d need to see it in daylight.

Personally, I\'d be inclined to squidge some 5 min epoxy or similar in the crack, smooth... Mix the colour.
I can\'t make it out on that picture.
Is it just in the shadow of one of those bangles?
Black + green shadow would maybe cover most?

Otherwise.
Perhaps make another bangle out of milliput or a strap out of paper/10thou plasticard.

This was similar to my thinking. Instead of trying to salvage the skin-tone between the bands (and the band themselves) why not make it into one big arm band. You could even do some nice tooling on it if you\'re careful.

That\'s the Rackham official picture. Otter\'s talking about a seperate peice, although it\'s the same kit, so you wouldn\'t be able to see it in that picture. Good ideas, tho.

I gots nothin\', otter. I feel your pain if you end up dip&strippin. good luck!

moot point

I had just glued her to the base when she slipped from my hands and the arms popped clean off.

On the up side, I now no longer have to fret about the crack.

On the downside... AAAAAARGH!!!!!!!!!

Screw it... I\'ll just glue the thing together and see if her score drops with the great glue-covered bits all the heck over her backside.
