Nah....i\'d say the French started it, then the Spanish........ then the Germans, Danes, Poles.........

The trouble is with a British Team is that we\'re, well, too British really! As much as I\'d like it to work out, I can\'t see any of the higher profile British painters committing in the same way the higher profile spanish and French painters do; The most active members of those teams are also multiple demon winners and Sword winners - they act as role models, share their knowledge on the Web, and behave with a passion that goes beyond that of us Brits!!

I also think the language barrier helps/forces them to form their own teams and build their own forums. Our equivalent of \"multiple demon winners and Sword winners\" for a \'British\' team would be the likes of Steve B and Vincenti who share their wealth of knowledge here on CMoN.

With a bit of fiddling I could create a private section over at the Slavetopaint forums for the brits if there was demand. It could be a place where people share ideas for GDs and other competitions, and plan which categories to enter so as not to tread on eachothers toes...

I reckon CMoN is a great British team, everyone has ideas for each other and everyone (who wants to) meets up at GD and other venues.
We dont have tactics like the other team, but does it really matter?

We had a meeting at GD sure, but it was hardly a British Team affair.........what with the Danes, Poles, Russians, Swedes, Americans, French.......

While I encourage a team spirit where I work, I am having difficulty with the comcept of TEAMS in what are Individual competitions. (Golden Deamons)

Ok I\'m very happy with the idea of meeting up and swapping ideas and getting suggestions in person instead of through Coolmini, but the concept of targetting specific categories according to specific painters capabilites doesn\'t sit right with me.

In the end while I would really love to win a Deamon I\'m more than happy to see people I know and respect lift their trophy on their own merits.

I have to agree with DR.
A team sounds like a good idea at first but I for one am too much of an individual, secretive and competitive to be involved in a team.

I think cmon and the GD drink are the closest I would be involved in such a thing.
I enter the categories I like not those that give the \"team\" more chance of success.

When I won my demons and sword many moons ago I had no input from anybody else and thats how I like it. I think its the british mentality.

I\'m really not sure where this idea came from. It\'s never been said from any of the ST members I know.
I guess it stems from the \"Team\" concept, coined by the French; They are just a group of friends who share a passion for miniatures. They just label their \"club\" as a \"team\".
When I was growing up, I was a member of a Model Club; A branch of the British Model Soldier Society. All these teams are are virtual online clubs.

I expect that the \"Team\" members make a model because it interests them as a subject, inspires them, and is a challenge to push their creative limits. Then they work out what category it goes in. You may notice from the results of the UK Golden Demon that some of the ST were competing against one another!

Yeeah, the ST were competing against one another but when the dust settled they could claim x for the Team.

I think Rob hit the nail on the head - the teams are really clubs like you see more in the military modelling world, but the members are divided by distance and so share ideas and concepts as well as hints and tips with eachother on a forum. I dont think there is anything sinister going on, but you can certainly see its effects when you look at how tight in style the painters from the respective teams become. I think its the enthusiasm of the individuals and their willingness to teach that has developed the french/spanish/etc \'style\' in the first place.

I suspect they call themselves a team because they get together and come over to the UK en masse to enter into an internationally reknowned competition.

When Slave to Paint was a studio with the three of us living nearby and painting together, we tried not to compete with eachother out of principal, but often did in the end because we fancied doing certain models. I\'d be surprised if it wasnt the same with the Spanish, so not a hard and fast rule but a general feeling of comeradery, and looking at the best options to win a trophy. I try to be clever every year but fail maybe 2007! lol!

I was a member of a local Military Modelling group until recently. It was based around figure painting, but it was simply a waste of time for me.
You pay a membership, meet once a month, more social than anything. I was the youngest there at 38 years old!!!!!! It was more of an excuse for some of the guys to get away from the wives really.
There were, in theory, live demos, but no-one took any notice or put any of it into practice. It would take an hours drive in total. Total image problems too; old men and toy soldiers (no geeks here.......)

Alternatively, I can pay a small subscription and visit here and other online \"clubs\", get better feedback and have more in common than my local club.

It should be pointed out that the Spanish Team love the idea of folks coming from far afield to compete in \"their\" demons......and if you do, you\'ll be invited out to dinner, discuss and look at the minis before the competition, and generally have a good time.

The same thing can be said during GD FR and the Paris Open.

Saturday before GD FR 2006, some of the germans, russians, and spanish were invited to the Star Wars Exposition at the City of Science (the year before they spent the day at the Louvre) and had dinner in an excellent french restaurant.

So here\'s the plan then. Next GDUK we invite the Spanish team for a cultural tour of Brimingham(???) followed by an evening of binge drinking and Baltis. That should stop them turning up the next day to \"steal\" our Demons etc
