This morning at 9:20 on a highway in Florida my brother's wife
was driving with her mother when an SUV in the oncoming lane
drifted onto the shoulder. According to witnesses, the driver
jerked the car back onto the roadway and lost control. The SUV
plowed into Kate's minivan. She died at the scene. Her mother
sustained significant, but manageable injuries. The other driver
was airlifted out.
Kate was strong and smart and brave and beautiful. She was the
world to my brother and their 3 children. She never took an ounce
of another person's dignity in her life. She was loved by all who
knew her.
She leaves a gaping hole in this sometimes sh*tty world she departs.
She leaves my brother to face that world without his soulmate.
She leaves 3 nearly adult children who adored her.
She is with my son Brian now. Brian, who passed away at 22 months,
turned 20 this past Monday, yet he will always be the toddler with
outstretched arms who wants nothing more than to be picked up and
held. He is with me every day and will be even closer these next painful
days.
Kate can hold him now.....for a few more breaths of eternity...then
it will be my turn once again. And then for all time.
He is in sweet, loving hands.
Rest in Peace, sweet Kate.
I'll be there to see you off and comfort those you bore and loved and leave behind.
Brokenhearted am I
