right you are ritual, i also agree with the Poltergeist comment. The only movies I can think of that freak me out, as I don\'t really find movies to be \"scary,\" were

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
The Exorcist
The Shining

ive been sitting here for 5 minutes trying to think of another with nothing coming to mind.

28 Weeks Later. Most of the film is \"ooo look at us! we have guns and are shooting up the Infected!\" run of the mill action flick. But the opening 10-15 minutes that were directed by Danny Boyle, well its the closest I\'ve ever been to wetting my pants with fright.

Its nowhere near as effective on a 4 inch by 4 inch panel on Youtube but heres a Link

When it faded to black at the end of that scene, you could have heard a pin drop in the cinema.

And the ending gives you just long enough for your brain to work out what your eyes are seeing and that cold feeling down your spine to kick in before cutting to cold, silent credits.

4films that i can think of that scare the crap out of me at random points (for different reasons)

1 evil dead - that dodgy stop-motion animation and weird special effects
2 poltergeist just because of that fecking clown
3 jaws
3 the ring
4 i can\'t remember but i shall update when i do!

One i saw when very young was Braindead (by Peter Jackson of LoTR fame) which was a very low budget zombie flick, and filmed in a park near where i lived at the time. Scared the bejesus out of my every time drove past the park! Great scene in it where the hero takes to the horde wielding a lawn mower!

The Ring is a goodie too!

Just rewatching the Alien Trilogy (Resurrection never happened), has put Alien at a close second for me. No matter how many times you watch it, no matter how much you know the alien is behind him, it scares the crap of you every time lol

Always nice to meet friends of the greatest tv series ever :beer: . Actually Firefly is not even offtopic in this thread, when F*x cancelled it I was truly horrified.

Ps. Last time I tried to post this message the forums died, hope it goes better this time.

The Banquet Table monster in Pan\'s Labyrinth was scary.

When I was a kid, the devil at the window in The Amytiville horror and the kid vampire at the window in Salem\'s Lot really freaked me out. I had a hard time walking past windows at night for at least a year after seeing those.

ok, joking about that though the movie is a classic and I loved it; but most horror movies scare me since I have a wired imagination where after seening Red Rose I was up until 5am with two knifes watching cartoons several years ago.

Though The Ring, The Shining, Dawn of the Dead (orginial), Night of the Living Dead, Ringu, and 28 Days Later, and some others that I can\'t think atm didn\'t scare me at all.

@ treide, I was the same way with the Salem\'s Lot kid-at-the-window scene and the Amityville window scene. And that effing clown from IT. I guess i\'ve just been desensitized to it now. My wife still can\'t walk through a dim hallway after watching a scary movie. She also never understands how I can walk through the pitch black house in the middle of the night without being scared.

always interesting to see how different people are, I can\'t for the living find out why anyone would find The Descent scary - I actually think it comes close to worst horror made in years.
A lot of the stuff mentioned is older stuff and I can only relate to that - a long time between the good horror flicks these days. A few newer ones that was a bit scary: An american Haunting, The Dark, White Noise
And why has noone mentioned the master of pain, the evil himself, the prince of hell - PINHEAD
