It can happen to the best of us! At my place of work there it a carpenter that has been a carpenter all his working life. He was about 6 months away from retirement and he lost concentration for a second while using a circular-saw. And zip! It removed the ends of three fingers on his left hand. Vern had been using tools like this day-in-day-out for 40 odd years, without a wound!
Let that be a lesson for us all, it don\'t take much to ruin your day

Nope, no leeches. It actually didn\'t bleed AT ALL when it happened. Crazy huh? And no more bending my finger in that joint. It\'ll be in the extended position for the rest of my life (or untill it gets caught in another machine and taken off )
The saw went through the top of the pinkie through skin, the extender tendon, both bones & cartilage, flexer tendon (in that order). So it was literally just hanging on by a piece of skin (with the nerve and a blood vessel in the layer of skin). So... no blood and i could feel my pinkie! Felt like the tip was asleep and just kept flopping over. Oh, and the first thing i saw of the wound was the ends of both bones. It was all white... bone was white, flesh was white, skin was white. No pink, no blood, nothing looking like meat. It was pretty crazy.
Sorry for everyone\'s stomach i upsetted. Not my intent, just been getting a lot of requests to see the pinkie so i figured i\'d better give the people what they want.lol

actually severe trauma like that often makes the blood vessels spasm to avoid excessive blood loss, clean cuts always bleed more. anyway enough of the technical talk - thanks for posting that! looks painfull - hope you don\'t do it again

Well, the knuckle works fine, and the first joint\'s a little stiff. The last joint in know a solid chunk of bone... never to flex again in this world. But, with a little bit of effort i can completely close my hand so that the tip of my pinkie touches the palm of my hand. But i can\'t keep my hand closed for very much longer than 20 to 30 minutes at a time... so painting gets a bit painful, but i\'m pretty good for sculpting. Hopfully the tendon heals up a bit more.
Anybody with a medical background know anything about tendons? i\'d really appreciate any knowledge you could pass on

Man I am surprised you don\'t have a splint and physiotherapy and the whole bit. They usually try to keep a tendon still that is trying to reattach itself. I\'m not there so\'s I can\'t say for sure, but it should be at least protected while it heals up. Tendons usually take way longer than bones to knit up.
Perhaps its that we have the cadalac of medical systems and you would get all the extra bells and wistles, or it could be its all they are able to do for ya. (You wouldn\'t have to pay a cent for all that work BTW, no matter the cause).
That is a nasty accident bud, hope it heals real quick for you. Sorry ta hear that happend.

Well, i have to wrap it every day. I\'ve got a little piece of sheet metal wrapped in tape, then a layer of none stick, then gause, then more tap. I change that out daily, but the doc told me to keep working the finger so i don\'t need theropy and so my joints don\'t freeze in place.
