I have.

Nice, interesting and complex piece of work.
I\'m wondering if this is the basis of a dissertation for university?

Nop, our philosophie topic for the year is science. Interesting as well, but not as much as art in my opinion :p

Shame. It would have been a good basis for one.

Now Science however, how close has that come to magic? ;)

Thanks for putting the effort into the article. Very interesting and well thought out.
And I agree with you.
I feel I am not an artist yet, just learning to become one.

I would class it as art.

When you take a blank canvass, like a metal mini, and use your talent, and imagination to add life to that canvas, I class it as art.

I don\'t believe just anyone can do it, you need the eye, and a certain degree of natural ability to paint.

A sculptor of minis, is just the same as someone who sculpt in marble, they take a blob on nothing and turn it into something.

100% mini-painting/scultping is an art-form.

It most certainly is.

Just look at how much time miniature painters will spend on on figure, and how the end-result is often something to be in awe of, and to learn from.

I\'m reading your article now, Arthur.

EDIT: This article ought to be stickied on every miniature painting forum out there.

While I agree with you about art I certainly don\'t think it has anything to do with the amount of time people spend on the figures.
An accountant could spend weeks auditing a companies books, doesn\'t make it art.

i could spend half an hour planning and 20 minutes drawing up an illustration on adobe illustrator, its still art in a sense but it didnt even take over an hour.

Sorry - didn\'t phrase that right. I suppose that I meant art is something that requires dedication, and something that can be interpeted in many different ways. That better? :)

Art?

In the beginning I didn´t think so like most people I started painting minis to play with them ( It took me quite some time to realize that i just paint but never play:)) I stopped the hobby three years ago, then I found cmon, thats when I realized that composition, the mood, etc. etc. that exists in painting also exists in the mini hobby, since then I´m back into the hobby!
I want to thank you all for opening my eyes through your wonderfull work, your dedication, and a wonderfull community....this all brougth me back to something I didn´t even realize I was missing.
greetings Roman

Definitely it is art

Miniature painting and scultping is definitely a legitimate art form and it is growing in popularity. My website is dedicated to acting as a \"virtual art museum\" to the craft of mini painting and sculptors, and the artists who create such beautiful works. :)

It\'s glorified painting by numbers. You buy a figure and colour it in. You can call many people artists and many things art. None of them will work their way into a gallery and define an era of history. They\'re toy soldiers.

Sculpting is the closest it gets for me. I reckon Tom Meier would have made a fine Renaissance sculptor :)
