canada\'s sad olympic winnings

Just found a more up to date website.

Basically the issue was that she made a mistake that anyone who does eventing shouldn\'t.

The mistake is kind of like picking the ball up in soccer as an outfielder, or letting the ball bounce twice in tennis and still claiming the point.

It\'s a shame for the person concerned...

But she made a mistake that would have counted against any 8 year old in a local competition. It would have been a travesty if it had been overlooked and possibly put the whole sport in disarray.
The main mistake was over ruling the original penalty and awarding the gold, only to have it snatched away yet again. That\'s just incompetence.

In my opinion, it\'s not. It\'s not as if she missed one of the hurdles or something. She rode over the starting post, the clock didn\'t start, so she took the time to ride around that bush there again and when she crossed the starting post the second time the scoring board showed her time. She didn\'t make one single riding mistake the whole race. And now they are punishing her for a mistake which was made by the management.
That doesn\'t have anything to do with the spirit of sports and is not just.

I didn\'t say she was incompetent...

I said the Olympic Committee or whatever were incompetent.
But she did make a mistake.

@ Gypsy:
I think you\'ll find it was the rider and horse that rode over the start line twice, not the management! It was an infringement of the rules and she was disqualified very messily, but correctly! Life\'s a bitch, eh?!...........lol

I\'m not sure about the whole olympics thing. Are some of these sports just made up specifically for the games?

Well if they\'re not....

They are certainly conducted in the utmost secret between Olympics:D

I think this hobby should qualify as an Olympic sport...Paintathons, synchronised paint shaking, unscrewing the top from a GW jar. The possibilities are endless:D

Sport shows

I don\'t know how it is in other countries, but here is France, it\'s usaually :

\"Wow, what a great race, the best champions ever in that category are competing right now, and our little X makes a wonderfull eighth place, which is far beyond expectation from such a young athlete...\"

Otherwise, it seems that we have some medals in like, sword, or, hem, whatever looks like a sword but I don\'t know the names in english. BUT what\'s nice is that most of our medals come from female teams or female athletes. So charming.

Fencing?

British Olympic Fencing:
Competitors forced to wear \'low cut\' bum huggers that reveal a minimum of three inches of butt crevice. Must stop every 15 minutes for tea and to look at the plans they rapidly scribbled on the back of their fag packet. Compulsory to tell customer that \'no planning permission is necessary luv\' and proceed to build ten foot neighbour nightmare that will be torn down by council the following week....:D

In NZ its a bit different. They tend to hype the athletes that get anywhere saying how they are in with a great chance for a medal going for gold etc etc and then when they dont its like \"Oh well they arent that good anyway.\" The best they get is a quick \"so and so placed 8th in the finals\" Their acheivment of getting to the finals of the Olympics is usually overlooked.

what about the russian shot put thrower. lets see. she was stripped of a silver medal in a more local event and banned from the sport for two years causing her to miss the 2000 olympics. so when 2004 comes up and she wins the gold she thinks she wont be tested??? nothing against russia but her and her coach and trainer who most likely new about it are morons.

Well...........

I once read that 84% of atheletes would take a pill that would garuantee them gold even if it would kill them within a year.

These ppl don\'t think logically.

I think last time I read, the very last country on the list was Zambia, because it had no medals, and they go by alphabetical order on ties.. And what is up with the US and the Aussies competing in everything? Are we trying to be the best worst spoiled brat of Britian or what? ...
Well, I win at the long jump, then: :bouncy:
