Yeah!

If people can\'t be arsed to attend in the flesh, even if they live next door,...why do we have all this blanket TV coverage...

*Yawn*

P
We are finally on a medal run- not in sports we expected though. See how important it is to send folks we think aren\'t guaranteed to place- which is our current policy in Canada:(

I saw it, and Paul Hamm really shouldn\'t have had a chance agains the Italian winner (forget his name). I have no idea how he tied him as his routine and landing were flawless, and he performed much more complex tricks. Of course I don\'t follow gymnastics however everyone in my family who were watching couldn\'t believe the tie.

I\'d also like to point out Nemov is an absolute class act.

well actually hamms rutien or how ever you spell it was actually more difficult than the italians which is why he got second because it took more mistakes to get from a 10.0 challenge to the 9.8whatever score than from a 9.9 which is what the italians was!

You mean routine right? :D

And somehow I find it hard to believe Hamms routine was harder. Of course I don\'t follow the sport but those two flip-twirly things (your turn to correct me) in succession seemed a lot harder to do than anything in Hamms bit.

Yeah, and I was suprised when Kyle Shewfelt (sp?) won our first gold in the artistic dancing event (shut up shut up shut up!)...sure, he stuck the landings, but he didn\'t do anything of those purty breakdancing spinny leg things! What\'s up with that?

Aussie Aussie Aussie.

32 medals, 12 gold. Not that we\'re boasting. At montreal we won a solitary bronze medal. It sparked a national sporting crisis, people remembered the days when we did better. As a result of our poor showing the Australian Institute of Sport was started. Since then it has been improvement after improvement. Maybe this is Canadian sports lowest ebb before a new surge.

I\'m as sports mad as the next Aussie, but I can\'t help but think that sometimes we have our priorities waaay wrong.. It\'s always nice to get a bunch of medals at the olympics, but the amount of money our government pours into the various national and state run institutes of sport is a little crazy when we have languishing health care and public education systems.. surely we could better spend that sports money? I love the Olympics, but to me all it really is, is a \'feel good\' event for maybe a month or so, every four years. My 2c anyway..

Very good point....

But at least you are aware that your Gov is pouring money into something.....

My Gov is bleeding me dry...the Health Service stinks, Education is a joke, the roads are full of holes, I pay tax on my farts.....

...and we are still sh*t at sport because Maggie Thatcher sold the school playing fields, and privatised breathing....

Count your blessings.....:D

We dno\';t even fare too well at the winter games. I mean we were what? Eighth in Salt Lake, I mean we\'re stereotyped as igloo dwellers and we can\'t even crack the top 5!?!! Ah well, at least our Hockey Teams are gold medalists. I mean, isn\'t that really what matters?
