Hi all!
This is my latest work in NMM, this fig was great to paint and really lends itself to the NMM style.

I went for an old school look with this fig staying away from the blues and keeping to the purples used on the old phoenix guard.

Also the red flames with the coals is something that i wanted to bring back onto the cloack on this fig, i think the whole effect works well and gives a nice vibrant finish.

And to finish i wanted to do a nice base so as the fig was sculpted by Mr F i thought it would be in keeping to style the base in his way! ;)

Hope you like, and any comments or questions would be great! cheers, Daz.

Can\'t say I\'m that enamoured with the sculpt - that halberd looks a bit too big and clumsy for an Elven creation.

Painting is exquisite though - the over-the-top style metals look great on this fig.

Oh my GOD!
...that is superb. You have pushed the boundaries of NMM and freehand with your painting now. Absolutely jawdroppingly perfect. You are seriously one of the very best in the world.

Coffin Dodger / Keymaster
ditto.
Only thing i really noticed is that the hair is too close to the NMG.

Love the flame job cape.

Amazing! Is the base availible to buy? Have to agree the sculpt is a bit heavy. The face looks a bit off. Has anyone else noticed this with the new high elves? Lots of sausage fingers, gigantic weapons and bulky minis.

Just awesome, and a true example of why you are one of my favourite painters.

I picked up Korhil, but you have made me want to give this a go too now! I really like the colourscheme, and I am going to borrow it when I get round to doing a HE army.

Hi, here is the tutorial I promised!

The gold-
*start with snakebite leather
*highlight up to bleached bone
*shade with thinned terracotta
*shade with thinned black
*highlight with white
The terracotta works really well with nmm gold as it adds the warmth that it needs.

The silver-
*start with fenris grey
*highlight codex grey
*highlight fortress grey
*highlight bleached bone
*shade codex and black mix
*shade black
*highlight white
Again the bleached bone adds some warmth to the silver which helps.

The skin-
*tallarn flesh
*wash dark fleash
*wash scorched brown
*highlight tallarn and dwarf flesh mix
*add bleached bone and fortress grey to the above mix for a few highlights
*highlight bleached bone#
*highlight white
*shade under the eyes with dwarf flesh and shadow grey mix, then mix in a little bleached for a highlight
*finish by washing the bottom lip with scab and dwarf flesh mix.
I added the fortress grey to cool the skin down and contrast with the warm gold armour.

The white-
*start with fenris grey
*add astronomican grey to the fenris for a good few highlights
*then astronomican grey on its own
*then lots of thinned layers of white to finish.

The purple-
*regal blue and warlock mix
*add more warlock purple for a few highlights
*then warlock on its own
*warlock and space wolves grey mix for a few highlights
*finish with a little space wolves where needed.

Hair-
*calthan brown
*tau sept ochre
*bleached bone
*white

I think that’s about it, as for the freehand work it takes a while but to help I look at a sketch or the image I want and using dots at first copy it onto the figure. So for the cloak I started by a dot for the phoenix head then the top of the wings etc, then you just join it up and fill in the blanks.

The base was hand made out of uriel stuff at work (like condensed plaster board) its easy to carve etc but plasticard will work aswell. Then the rocks where sculpted around it and carved when dry.

If I’ve missed anything then please say! Hope this helps some, cheers! Daz

And Mr F is Martin Footit, he’s a figure designer and demon winner and also needs to get his ass in gear and post some more of his work on here!
