Chaos Renegade Militia

Hey all! I recently ordered some models from Forgeworld and I have to say, I am really impressed with them so far. The sculptwork is awesome and the detail is amazing. Soo... I really want to try to give them a paintjob worthy of the model. Therefore, I need the help of you all!

I started painting the champion today, and I will post some WIP pics of him as I work on him. Please feel free to provide some criticism and comments to improve this guy!

This is about 3 hours of work. The teeth look a little messy and the front of his left arm needs smoothing...

Maybe some more shading on this arm, though I think the camera is playing tricks on me.

Thanks!

Hehe, he does look a little borg-like ;)

Put the rest of the colours on him just now. Now he needs cleaning up, highlighting and weathering. Not necessarily in that order! (7 hours so far... I\'m trying to keep track for once!)

Not sure I should have made that radio... thingy... whatever it is, silver. I think I may make it worn black instead, with a hint of metal.

Planning on making the plasma bit on his gun green, with some minor lightning effects to match his eye. We\'ll see how it goes, I don\'t like the ribbed texture of that area, makes it hard to highlight smoothly.

I have to admit that out of the five figures in this set this is one of my favourites and seems to have a lot of character about it :D

Hey guys, thanks for the comments!

Yes, I am using all GW colours. The skin started out as liche purple, then highlighted with a mix of purple, elf flesh, bleached bone and skull white, together with some light washes of green and brown.

The red is a base of 50/50 mechrite red and chaos black, then highlighted using very thin red gore, and a black wash (so far ;))

He\'s great, I have to say. A lot of fun to paint so far. Easily he most detailed model I have seen yet :)

I have the foundation paint set that I bought by mistake because I\'m new at this. The red seems to give slighty more coverage than their red gore.

The foundation paints have significantly more pigment in them, thus the better coverage. They are best used for base coating, but are not exclusively for that purpose. There are some great colors in the set, khemri brown and dheneb stone come to mind. Just remember that they dry really, really fast and you want to keep your brush wet, rinsing it thoroughly from time to time, even if you aren\'t finished with the color. Also, I know some folks paint directly from the pot, I highly recommend against this with foundations since they dry so fast. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I like the foundation colours for laying down thin basecoats. They seem to help me achieve an even coat of paint. I haven\'t used them for \"real\" painting yet, but used carefully I don\'t see why they wouldn\'t work :)

actually it depends on what paint it is but you know

i might buy some foundation paints

can you buy them seperately yet because GW promised that they would come seperate.

THANKS

I am pretty sure you could get foundation paints one by one at any outlet. I use an independent retailer though.

I started the weathering! I wasn\'t going to post anything until I had made some more progress, but... why not :)

Still not sure what to do about the box he has on his ass. It\'s kind of... a little bit of everything right now. Black/Green/Brown...
