Who else thinks the \"Girls\" aloud version of \'I think we\'re alone now\' sucks big syphillitic donkey balls? :flame:

They took a total classic and RUINED it in a gay pop-monkey way.

There are VERY few times that a cover version is as good as an original - and EVEN FEWER where it is better.

I have however heard a good punk version of \'I think we\'re alone now\', that I THINK was done by Mxpx?

Hendrix\'s All Along The Watchtower was insanely better than Dylan\'s IMO
And Saturday Night\'s Alright For Fighting, better by The Who than Elton John.

Indeedy do for those. I\'m not saying there AREN\'T better versions of songs, but there are DEFINATELY some covers which should NEVER have been done...

For example, as much as I like the Scissor sisters, they\'re cover of comfortably numb (Even though I\'m not a great fan of the Floyd) was rubbish!

My only hope is that people will rediscover the original versions...

This may be controversial (or just dismissed out of hand as silly) but I much preferred Rolf Harris\'s version of Stairway To Heaven to the Led Zeppelin original. Sorry

Hey - each to their own! :p
I haven\'t heard it, and to me it does sound a bit blasphemous, but whatever floats your boat... I mean there MUST be some people who LIKE the \"girls\" aloud version, otherwise it wouldn\'t be in the charts... But they\'ve obviously not heard the original.

Gawd those girls can\'t sing.

Yea i no, some stuff redone is terrible, just had to say a couple that i really think blow the origionals away.

Rolf Harris\'s version was AWESOME (like 10 million hotdogs) :p;)

*EDIT* I used to work with Cheryl Tweedy\'s brother Gary (she\'s the geordie one) and as soon as she was in the band, he started signing lessons!

Rolf\'s version just seemed to get to the actual song a lot quicker - the LZ one always had me searching for the fast-forward button as it dragged on and on.

As for Girls Aloud - I guess they didn\'t get where they are because of their singing ability... more for their stunning personalities

Signing lessons...?
You mean to interpret the lyrics for the OBVIOUSLY deaf people who go to \"Girls\" aloud gigs? lol

Cheryl - isn\'t she the racist one who beat up that woman in a club?

I don\'t know about that one, but Dylan himself was so impressed with the Byrds version of his Mr. Tamborine Man when he heard them do it at a club that he got them a recording contract.

Which version of \"I Think We\'re Alone Now\" are you calling a classic.
It was originally by Tommy James and the Shondells, and was remade by The Rubinoos, The Turtles, The Pulsar Triyo, Lene Lovich, Pascal, Girls Aloud, The Click Five, Tiffany, the Bel\'s Boys and of course Weird Al Yankovich\'s spoof \"I think I\'m a clone now\".

As much as I love the Beatles, I prefer the Joe Cocker version of I get by with a little help from my friends.

And I think the Joan Jett version of Crimson and Clover is just as good as the original.

But sadly, most remakes are utter garbage. The worst offender is probably those \"kidz bop\" versions. :|~
I had the displeasure of having to listen to one of those OVER AND OVER for hours at a customer\'s house once; I think I hated children for about a week after that.

A better version of Stairway to heaven?! HERESY!!!!!

Behind Blue Eyes by Limp Bizkit (Why the #*^@! do you need to make your own verse for the song jackass!)

:D As long as we\'re on the subject of Led Zepplin & cover versions of songs... Almost every song on their first two albums were cover versions of older songs. Interestingly enough, they were also almost all attributed to Jimmy Page! There was a great deal of controversy about it at the time because both they and the record company were refusing to pay any rights to the real owners of the songs, most of whom were old blues musicians. Just to make matters worse (remember this was back in the late 60s and early 70s) both Page & Robert Plant made asses of themselves by making some pretty ignorant, racist statements to the effect that maybe others had written and performed them previously, but they were the first to make them really popular because they were white. Proving once again that having great talent doesn\'t necessarily make you smart.
