Well here is a review I wrote for the UKCORD

Who here doesn\'t know the premis for this story.......?

Well just in case here is a quick runthrough.

In WWII London, the four Pevensie children--Peter, Edmund, Susan and Lucy, are evacuated to the countryside to escape the Blitz. While playing hide and seek in their isolated manor house, Lucy stumbles through a wardrobe into the land of Narnia, kept in perpetual winter by an evil witch. Soon all four children are caught up in an impending battle between the witch and her nemesis Aslan the lion, to which they are part of a \'great\' prophecy.

now to the film......

The characters themselves are slightly dull, frankly, you expect more spark and charm from the director/cowriter of Shrek. Sure, each has their personality quirks, but the children used for this film aren\'t mature enough actors to add subtext or depth, and that\'s even harder to do with an animated lion, but with this they somehow manage to do it. It makes it almost beleivable that this beast is actually there! There was only one scene that I noticed that he didnt actually interact with his surroundings properly(i will give a cyber pat on the back to the first person that spots the same one ). The faun becomes endearing from the off, and is played by a rather unusaual choice of actor, James McAvoy from Shameless. The witch I think is magnificent in this role a very good choice of actress Tilda Swinton. Although th escript for a story all ready written is a little week, it is a very compelling film, a full emotional rollercoast, although you seem to feel for the wrong people at times.

The only real problem is that everything is slightly inflated. The battles are too big, but that I didnt find a problem, in this day and age we have come to expect big loud ground rubling scenes in our movies. The sets are over-designed and the costumes rather too costumey, but again I think we need need this, as today we are spoilt with a plethera of visual feasts, It needed to have a victorian feel (time period in which the fim is not set) and the conveyed it beautifully. The wardrobe itself positively hulking and the workman ship and detail was astounding(if it was not CGI). This twee hyperbole won\'t stop children and adults alike from falling in love with this world, but it prevents the film from being a proper classic. Although it\'s still a seriously great story with powerful themes. Which you really must see. Fortunately, Lewis\' story is compelling and resonant enough to transcend this enchanting story in this, its 1st attempt on the big screen. If this one is anything to go by, I will am looking forward to the next one...Will they do all seven books?

4/5

Go see it.

Taking the kids to Narnia next week. I loved the books and so did they.

I enjoyed all of C.S. Lewis\' writings.

My wife and I rarely agree on movies to see. Poor thing, she loves the cinema so. I can\'t seem to find many films that aren\'t horrible remakes or bad ideas re-hashed.

I have a REALLY weird story about the books \"The Chronicles of Narnia\", but I\'ve been debating whether or not to post it; I\'m not sure I even believe it myself...

I loved Narnia. Absolutly the best translation of a book to the screen that I have ever seen. My sister said it best, calling it \"everything the Lord ofthe Rings (movie) should have been\"

I saw it yesterday, not reading the books, which was maybe a mistake but can\'t really tell, so i am judging this as a film in its entirety, rather than a book to film translation,

I found it very fantasyish, now obviously it\'s a fantasy, but maybe tooo fantasy, lotr is a fantasy but it is somewhat believable, in the same way as the matrix: you know it isn\'t real, but if you get your mind into the film you can believe it, narnia didn\'t do this for me and i cant even put my finger on why, maybe the set design or actors, or maybe just the whole stroy is not one that interests me, the battles were great i have to say, i loved sideshow wetas work on all of the creatures of the film,

I can see kids loving this film, but for me it lacked the gory realisticness of films like the lord of the rings, i\'d give it a 7 out of 10 i think, but i was expecting so much more, i guess that\'s what price you pay for getting your hopes up about a film

and that\'s my review :D

Well looks like I will be a voice of dissension. I saw Lion witch and wardrobe. Can\'t say it did much for me. I didn\'t find the sfx very convincing and I just found the child actors pretty lame.
Oh well another reason for me to get a proper home theatre system.

I won\'t go see Narnia, I hated the books.
It was like getting hit over the head with an allegory hammer.
However, I do want to see Kong.

I tried not to read to much of this post. it doesnt come out till dec 26 in Oz. The kids are clamering to see it and from the ads it looks fantastic. Bight lines of doods screaming at each other as they run at em wielding axes what else can you need in a movie.

Is it good really?

You have to remember (especially if you\'ve never read the books) that this is a kids movie. It\'s a Disney kids movie. It\'s very well done but the target audiance of the books and the movie are kids about 10 years old (younger?).

Don\'t get me wrong, I\'m in my mid 20\'s and loved this movie, but I loved the books (all 3 times). Disney actually did an excellent job translating the story, as written, to the screen. I\'m sure this has to do with the fact that CS Lewis\'s (the author) stepson was very involved in creating this movie.

I think the child actors did an excellent job. The little girl who played Lucy was perfect. She had the innocence and joy that I always pictured in this character. I just wish that my two favorite quotes had been included more than once each.

It\'s a Disney kids movie.

A 40ish friend of mine wept during the trailer for it, that\'s how much the story can hit some people. While it is proported to be a childrens book, CS wrote with such elegance and intelligence that it is very approachable for adults too.
