Unfortunately I don\'t have a picture of that pirate but since Dirk Stiller pointed it out to me I\'ll aks him if he knows what brand is was. I only know it was Italian.

Avicenna: Cindy is definitely from the Netherlands. We regularly have painting and sculpting sessions here and I usually get blamed for getting her addicted to miniatures. Yeah, it\'s great to have a hobby partner around. It\'s what I was missing when I was 18. That\'s why I pretty much quit drawing them. Nobody to compare notes with and all comments I got from others were \"pretty drawings\". I.e. not much in the way of constructive criticism. Not very motivating. It\'s good to have somebody with who you can talk at the \"same level\".

Er, did you already tell us what you want to be in miniature?

It\'s one of the reasons I\'m a little obsessed about this forum. Sometimes I feel like I\'m in the same with room with a few friends, all sharing our stories and tips.

Cool idea. I do something similar by going to game conventions. I actually do that more to meet up with hobby friends again and others in the field than with the mere purpose of visiting that convention. That\'s even true for gencon. For me the main motivation to go there again is to be at the sculptor\'s meet (which is not actually a gencon thing) and meet fellow sculptors.

Anyway, if you make that trip, let us know.

Missed that bit about the hobbit. Should be easy to find yourself in a mini then.

Just for info, last week-end there was a convention in Lyon with both historic and fantasy minis. I had the pleasure to meet great artists like AllanC, Jérémie Bonamant Teboul, Julien Casses, and Yannick Degiovani. Apparently it\'s every year. It had a nice family atmosphere and no fan boys (well, I tried not to be one ). Some pictures can be found here (sorry for the the size and the 90° pictures, but it should give you a good idea of the quality that was there ).

If you want to stop by Lyon one day, Galante or Ming-Hua, just PM me .

The interesting thing for me about this convention (besides meeting nice people ) is that I was able to see minis without a single brush mark. These people paint so smoothly, it\'s completely incredible.

[edit]If he has time, Arthur might be doing an article for CMON on this convention, so people with lower bandwidths should be able to see these minis easily.[/edit]

@ Ming-Hua, that\'s probably a good idea. I\'ve never been to a gaming convention before, and I would like to go to Games Day in the UK this year exactly for the same reasons.

You\'re more than welcome . Just for info, I read this morning in the local newspaper that the museum of miniatures of Lyon will be reopening on the 20th of February. They’ve invested €3 million, it’s 2000m², and every year 75000 persons visit it.

I\'m not yet sure where I\'ll be this year. From the way it looks I think it will be at least Berlin and Paris for short trips. And of course all the conventions in this area.

I\'m not sure yet. It was closed in 2000 because too many people were going there and they needed to make it bigger. The donnator is Gigi Oeri who is the richest woman in Switzerland. She owns the soccer club of Bâle and has a museum on dolls in Switzerland. Apparently she is a great miniature collectionner. But I suspect that the museum in Lyon will mostly have porcelains and lead historic style minis. I think they did have an exposition on mold making and casting though. Anyways, I\'m definitively going to find out and I\'ll get back to you then .

Hmm, perhaps that museum could be interested to know of the paint aid and SOS Asie projects. Just as a part of recorded history of miniatures.

Could be a nice place to do a mini-painters meet. Though you risk them criticizing the paintwork on the China dolls.

The Museum of Miniatures in Lyon has mostly Dollshouses miniatures.
I have visited it with my wife some year ago and probably I will visit it again in the next future.

@Green Stuff..... AARGH! Last weekend I have wasted my time in Milan.... never heard about a miniature convention in Lyon. Sigh! ???

I\'m already a couple of steps ahead of you Ming-Hua . I\'m planning on making an A4 poster for Paint Aid, and I\'ll try to contact the people at SOS Asie. Jérémie is from Lyon, and I think that he\'s reasonably known in France to interest them .
