At first glance an basing and is right on point for the theme. I think the painting could have a bit more depth (contrast) and I think I might have made the back wall darker and opted for something on the front figure that would draw the eye that way a bit more. You are dead on with the amount of focus on the figure behind the curtain. Love that you did the back of the wall and the snow.
Greenstuff:
Although paint-wise some work can be done on the blending, the composition of the scene is splendid. Details like the rat, the lamp, the candle, the broken window, the snow, … add useful character to the scene and make it believable. Shadows could have been marked more to build drama, but it works for me as is. I think you should have made the snow less homogeneous; some melting parts would have made some variety.
Dragonsreach:
Very complex piece and for me hits the idea of the theme exactly. A couple of points detract from this however, the complexity of the idea is as I said good but just cramped in too small a space. An expanded base size would suite the vignette better. I agree that the wall colour is a bit “Warm” for the intended time, but that’s minor in regard to the overall effect. Painting of the characters could be somewhat stronger with more attention being paid especially to the “Hunter” character’s clothing. The “Hiding” figure, the same but being hidden, reduces the ability to show strong painting
Jike Ichi:
This piece is an eye catcher. You immediately see a story going on there. Great idea and base concept. Gratulation on your work! Only thing that doesn’t fit in for me is the yellow wall. You say it’s night, right? But why you chose this wall colour, it gives the feeling of midday!? Perhaps a grey blue-wall would have been better. The OSL from the candle would benefit from it too.

The first thing I did was ignore the text above the mini and look at it as a mini. That impressed me. The painting is clean and well planned. But without actually reading the text I didn\'t get how it related to hide and seek. After reading I love your interpretation but I don\'t feel it came across as well as it could have. It\'s hard to see the watch and the rabbit hole. I have a feeling this is one of those minis that\'s better “in hand” than in pictures. You did well on the fabrics and the hair and I get the whole “Dark Disney” thing you were going for. I think it\'s the best paint-job of the lot.
Greenstuff:
This was a tough one to judge. The rabbit’s watch isn’t easy to “read” and the blood is drowned too much in the base. The interpretation of the theme is original but unclear without your explanation. Paint-wise, a good level, but some blends of the blues can use some tidying. The metals work but could use more contrast. The base is nice and clean, but would need more elements to indicate the rabbit (a tail, a foot, …).
Dragonsreach:
Nice painting and I agree that the basing looks natural and close to scale, comprehension of what’s going on is somewhat lost.
Jike Ichi:
I really like the painting. Clothes and base really look natural. Also the metal arm is done very nicely. Only Backdraw: Its not easy to understand whats going on, perhaps the extra little rabbit bud disappearing in the hole would have made the difference.

This one does have a “Looking for the rat” thing going for it. I do like the base even though the ballast around the edge of the base is a bit rough. I would have liked a shot of the back of the mini, though. There\'s something red back there that might be a flower or something but I can\'t tell. The painting is rough. The paint could have been thinned more and there could be more high and low lights to it. Details on the face would help as well. It is a fair table top mini though.
Greenstuff:
Your picture isn’t helping a lot. As is, I can’t see much highlighting or shading. The composition is simple, but doesn’t evoke much the “hide” part. On a positive note : the paint is applied cleanly and awaits more contrast and details; something that can be fixed
Dragonsreach:
This is a good idea, but the level of painting isn’t particularly strong. It could use additional work to bring the shadow tones and highlights to more effect. Sadly; the base looks as if there is no highlighting at all and just single a colour. GW washes would be a good idea to start to work the painting up a level and are remarkably easy to use and produce good effects without overworking.
Jike Ichi: I like the idea of the rat hiding from the hunter. Fits theme good. Painting is tabletop quality. Next step forward would be to dry washes for metal parts and clothes!?
Congratulations to you all and I hope you enjoyed the contest!
I hope this contest will continue and that we\'ll see a third round someday. If you have any ideas to improve the contest please let us know!
