CMON = zombie?

I\'ve been thinking about this before, but the thread about the CMON4 contest got me started again: where is CMON heading??

I mean, two or three years ago, Chern Ann was an active member of the community, constantly tweaking the site, and adding new functionality. You could also see him quite frequently on the forums, together with Borg, and posting news.

The painting contests were fun, everybody probably remembers the first chaotic days when the mini was released :) The annual was also nice, a great effort by CA for the community.

I\'ve heard CA is busy, but I think there\'s hardly anything new on the site the last 6 months or so. Borg is sometimes here on the forums, but most of the time he\'s only here to announce new stuff in the CMON shop.

I know CA was thinking about selling CMON, so I\'m a bit worried where all this is heading. The site is alive, but I think a lot of people (especially the subscribers) are waiting for new stuff.

The members who submit pics and articles every day are the heart of CMON. But it appears the head is gone...

The above isn\'t a rant, but some sort of \"Where are you CA, and when can we expect something new?\" :)

Corvus:
Other than the 2004 Annual and the \'poor \' representation of the CMON4 competition, I think the site is fine. :)
It\'s a sign of good programming that the site hasn\'t needed much tweaking and works as well as it does.

We all know that Chern An is busy and possibly at the moment, even more so as I believe he lives in Singapore.

I like the community atmosphere that CMON has. I agree there isn\'t the input from the higher ups that there once was, but the forums are going strong.

The CMON4 competition might be more of a series of factors, including a lackluster mini, other events going on, etc. etc...

I did have high hopes for a new Annual, but all things considered, I think the thing the last Annual sorely missed out on was the community spirit that is so prevalant on the site.

I am not so sure that \'zombiefied\' is the correct term, but it definately may be a case of \'the inmates running the asylum\' .

:D;)

CMON has brought people together, sometimes as friends, other times as squidgy, gooey lovers. It has served a huge purpose in that respect :)

It remains a place to make a complete twat of yourself as well, as I did just the other day.

Chern pops in with a word here or there as is necessary, but that\'s where the mods also make their moves. As long as the Overlord is out there, this puppet will continue to bounce up and down on his strings, access permitted :D.

I know as much as you do...possibly a lot less:D

I too miss CA\'s input as I thought his was a voice of reason amongst the (frequent) chaos.

The site is strong however, and getting stronger in terms of membership, hosted images and comments. Borg works hard behind the scenes, nearly every single image has been moderated by him alone.

Basically the site seems to work well without Chern\'s constant presence and it is a credit to the \'regulars\' that this continues to be the case. I also think Mike has a point about Chern likely to be even busier now considering his location:(

EDIT: Oh come on Rev, you didn\'t make a complete twat of yourself ;)

I\'m new to the site in the last 6 months, and I\'m only half Zombie! :bouncy:

But I\'m looking forward to the next CMON contest, I\'ll have an entry for it!

I wasn\'t around when all the uppity-ups were about so I can\'t comment on that. I like this place, the regulars help out and it is a good place to find information and the like so its all good.

At the same time though, what doesn\'t grow, either stagnates or withers and dies. I don\'t expect that here any time soon, but as someone pointed out in another thread, the CMON 3 banner is still showing all over the place, there has been no advertising for the CMON 4 miniature and I don\'t think anyone has heard anything about a CMON 5 any time soon.

Now, that being said, I have run a rather large site in my time too, and something that gets this big (we got about half the size to be truthful) takes up a lot of time, effort, money and patience .... the last being something most people lack the most of. At the same time though, as pointed out, there are moderators and \'helpers\' all over this place and I think if the pool was dipped into just a slight bit, help could be found to take on some of the more \'mundane\' tasks for those running this place, making it less of a chore and more \'fun\' like it was meant to be.

Graphics can be updated for the CMON contest. Some uppity-up could close out the CMON4 and start up a CMON 5. More help can be found to push through comments and miniature submissions (not that its slow now).

I\'m sure help can be found if its wanted or needed as this is a very pro-active community and I have met many interesting individuals through this site and have people that I consider good friends that I interact with on an almost daily basis now. It\'s a good place for me, I personally would like to see it grow in the best way possible.

Don\'t see what the fuss is about. As a subscriber, I\'m perfectly happy for the site to do no more than it already does for the paltry sum I paid. It certainly gives me way more entertainment than an issue or two of \'Shite Dwarf\'!

That last competition mini was pap. If it had been better, I\'d have entered!

Well Ive said it before and I will say it again.
If CA is too busy etc then let someone help out.It just seems common sense to me.Saying that it is his baby and its totally up to him.
Like Scott Im more than happy the way things are (cmon4 mini aside), but do believe there could be things done to make it even better.

This certainly deserves a reply, while I can\'t speak for Chern, you can hear it from the other half.

I understand your frustrations and I share them with you. I will skip the usual how happy I am with the site etc and get straight to the point. Me and Chern serve very different functions here at CMON. He does the techical part and I do the rest. Chern is a very aggressive businessman and he has been involved in some really exciting projects so CMON has been put on hold in terms of growth. Certainly cannot go forward without him.

Now as far as the rest, I do all the picture approval daily except weekends, Finn does all the comments. Trust me, there is no shortage of either of those to do. I try to keep the store stocked, orders shipped and keep an eye out for exciting new stuff that members might be interested in.

As far as competition, we might put that on hold for several reasons. First, I need Chern for that, second, I don\'t want to do contests for the sake of just doing them. I want good sculpts and well organised contests, which I feel at the moment is not up tp my standards. But I will keep the limited edition minis coming, just no comps to go with them.

CMON annual, I want to do one, but I had nothing to do with the first one, Chern did it all with Wightzombie, so it is up to those 2 to decide if we can do another one. I know nothing about printing books, epecially in Singapore.

So, while there are nothing earth shattering going on, the site is being maintained daily and we have over 46.000 images and growing daily. Interesting submittions seem to go up and down depending on Golden Demons and such.

My heart is in it. I work very hard daily. Hopefully we can come up with solutions soon so that we can grow faster, but for now, I hope you enjoy the site as I do and keep coming back to look at the pretty pictures.

Well we (I)appreciate the work being done by yourself.
Although there have been criticsms in the past about CMON, it is still the BEST SITE for Painting, Pictures and Friendship. There has been nothing lost by the fact that Chern An is not around and it goes to show that:
a) he built it well,
and
b) he must have some faith in us.

We do miss him around and it would be nice to hear from him again, but the man has to keep his business going.

As for the issue of the CMON4 mini, well Ok she was (is slender) but it\'s a nice and challenging piece to paint.

Thanks Borg,
that does shed some extra light on things and put details in their own nice little pigeon holes.
The work done by yourself,CA ,the mods etc etc.is certainly appreciated and dont let a few concerned utterings make you think otherwise.

BTW thats not arse licking, just the way I feel.

Thanks guys. I am not looking for a pat on the back. Just letting you know that it is not like you all been forgotten. The site is designed well, so it will self perpetuate without much help. As long as the pictures keep coming in and the community remains solid, the rest is just bonus.
