I also think videogames are way too much money. That is why I buy them used on ebay or $20 instead of $60.

One last thing. If graphic novels are too expensive then read regular books. That is what I do.

sorry for the double post... but the spawn issue one is around $15. not much, it came out when everybody started printing variants of variants and made huge amounts of comics that never sold in the 90\'s. this pretty much killed off the ability of comics being worth more. the only spawn comic worth a crap now is issue #4 with a coupon still attached. (which i still have) i think it goes for like $60 or $70. not much else though.

edit: even sadder....you can get spawn ish 1 for $3 on ebay and spawn ish 4 for $6.

thank you comic book industry for destroying my old nest egg. lol

Knowing that they are pretty much worthless I do not care anymore. Plus I was always a fan of the Alien Vs. Predator Comics. It amazes me that they made such great comics related to this yet they came out with those crap movies. Why could they not just base the movies off of one of the comics? Hollywood is worthless.

farin: you just opened a can of worms for me.

i was the weird kid who asked for two of eadch figure...i opened one and kept the other put away in the closet. such was the way with my tie fighter, yak face from canada (parents took vacation in canada) all cardboard deathstar, 50 or so odd figures, ewok village and pretty much everything else.

then fastforward to 1999, my mom calls and says she put $75 into my bank account and then i found out that she had had a garage sale.... at last count the amount of money she lost me was around $12,000. i kid you not!!!

dont even get me started on all my worthless late 80\'s early 90\'s ball cards....or the three jordan rookie cards i traded for a mark mcgwire rookie card.

what an idito i was!!!

holy mother of...

i know you´re not kidding , cause i know how much this old stuff is worth . I remember, a few years ago i read this Star trek collector´s guide and one of the listed items was a mini tricorder for kids from Burger King. It was just a stupid plastic toy, but the list price was around 800 $ at that time

Uber, i just have to ask : what did you say to your mom? Or should i say : Did you ever talk to her again?

i gasped and fell down onto the chair in my apt. it was then that i cursed a bit and told her that they were worth a ton.

you see my grandmother had burned all of my uncles ballcards from the 40\'s and 50\'s in the 70\'s after he moved out. including three copeis of the mickey mantle rookie card from topps. i think they are 50,000 bucks now each.

so my mom knew not to torch my ball cards (which by the way are worthless now) but not about the star wars....not to mention a sealed castle grayskull, he-man, skeletor, orko.....

ummm lets see she also sold the transformers collection..... all G1\'s sealed in boxes....

GI joe....

pretty much my entire collection of 80\'s toys. it took me 6 years to collect all of that stuff and now some lady who acted all weird when buying them is probably drinkiing chamblais with her homies.

grrrrr......

Agreed! What galls me sometimes is how on multi-platform games the console version, which tend to not be as complete or full-featured as the PC version, cost more.

That\'s a thread in its own right! The studio system has never exactly been noted for high standards in creativity and there are so many variables that can ruin an otherwise promising project.

As far as AvP films go, haven\'t seen the second yet. Have hopes it\'s better than the first. But IME lots of \'good\' comic-book stories/plots wouldn\'t make good films because the mediums are so different.

Oh sweet Jesus!

I took steps to prevent that with my mint copies of Watchmen that I bought as an investment - in sleeves, in a bag, in a box with warnings of dire consequences written in marker on both sides. Only problem is as things went they\'re not worth much *sniff*

I\'d collected comic books over the years.

2 1/2 years ago when my wife and I split, I had to sacrifice and $200/month was money I could not afford, so away they went.

I was going to sell the 2-3000 comics I have now on Craigslist, but then we had the worst winter in 60 years, and that pretty much made them useless except to the casual reader.

But I know about the high cost of comics...$4.00 is too much for 36 pages.

And then when I heard about what they did to Spider-Man I felt justified in quitting.

Hmm... I thought you were a chick.

Spider-Man has gone from having mediocre writing to the WORST in the biz. If you were a spidey fan you did good to get out while you could.

\"One more day\" is the most retarded thing I\'ve read in a comic book. It undoes 40+ years of character building in a single set. Truly attrocious.

Oh, so I have to be a MAN to have a wife?

Just kidding. I am. lol

Yeah, when I heard about the \"One More Day\", I got seriously pissed off. It completely undoes what long-time fans have been reading so they can try to appeal to a younger audience.

Very annoying.

I was rather happy with the \"New Avengers\" and him being part of a team, even if it probably wouldn\'t last a long time. Lots of that really made me enjoy it and was geniunely bummed when I had to give it up.

Good timing indeed. Miss the Ultimates universe, though. Some good ideas there.

I agree vike, I stopped buying comics about a year and a half ago, they were just too expensive.
I think my all time favorite was The Maxx. I loved that comic book, thought it had a cool story and great artwork. I still love anything Sam Keith does...

I agree too that video games are WAY too expensive... sixty bucks for an xbox game, it\'s just not worth it most of the time... buying them used is mainly what I do, unless it\'s something I really really want to play, like Fallout 3...

Einion, are you looking forward to the Watchmen movie? I think it looks pretty kickass from the previews, but we all know how previews can be! ><

Even with the cost of things I still look at it as value for the money. I\'ve spent probably near a grand on equipment and songs for Rock Band, but I call it money WELL spent vs. the hundreds of hours me and the friends have had playing. Same with something like Fallout 3. I can\'t tell how many hours I log into that game.

SO just as with comics, I still find it good value for the money.... mostly. Some stuff just picks at my ass after I read it though (One more day being mentioned....)

Man-oh-man.

Ultimates- The Ultimate universe has outlived it\'s purpose methinks. It was great in the early days of it when it was a nice \"clean\" reboot of old favorite characters with slightly new spins. But too many slight spins and tweaks have made the Ultimate universe as big a mess (5 years old, give or take) as the regular Marvel continuity. I don\'t bother with any Ultimate titles anymore.

New Avengers was a little frustrating for me. Simply throwing all the popular cool kids into a book didn\'t by default make it good. And the Sentry story stuff eats wang.

There are some good buys out there. Buying stuff in TPB format is still not a bad way to go.

Scott, how do you REALLY feel about it?lol

I had the same thought. Wow, how can we fit a \"Superman-like\" character in the Marvel Universe? WTF?

But seriously, how cool was it when Tony Stark calls J Jonah Jameson into Stark Towers to browbeat him into leaving Spider-Man alone?

Not to mention I liked having Spidey recognized as a good-guy by the other heroes. And when Stark looks at Peter and acknowledges his high intelligence when he points out that Peter made web shooters as a teenager! And his incredulity that Peter\'s not really done anything science-wise since.

Great stuff in that.

Can you give me the nutshell version of this new storyline?

From what I\'ve read online (wiki has some good stuff), Peter literally made a deal with the devil (Mephisto), that to save Aunt May, he and MJ agreed to have their marriage and entire relationship retcond to nonexistence. Which has had repercussions with some of the storylines, obviously.

He and MJ are no longer married. Some of the abilities and such that he\'s gained/learned/etc. are gone. Never happened.

Does Bobby/Shower/Dallas mean anything to you?

Maybe someone\'s got a better or fuller explanation, but that\'s what I read.

Seriously hacked me off.

That\'s about it. \"One more day\" came from the fact that Peter and MJ had the one day to spend together.

STUPID! Aunt May is about 112 years old. Unless her mom was raped by a dragon and she\'s got some crazy lineage she\'s due for the dirtnap any day. To cough up the relationship they\'ve been building in comics for 40 years is past retarded.

It was like a flush of the Spidey continuity. It sucks. A ton.

Some of the Iron Man developments have been excellent. I\'m sure they\'re gonna put him back on the bottle soon. His life has turned pretty shit and I\'ve enjoyed it.

KILL THE SENTRY allready. Goddamitt!

Thor\'s excellent, but he needs to start doing stuff. I liked the break from him just spouting off in his iambic pentameter and smashing stuff with his hammer. But now I find myself wishing he\'d bust some dome\'s with Mjolnir a little more.

Cool. I liked the Fantastic Four. But only when Byrnes wrote them. But he is also the reason I liked Alpha Flight.

I read the Essential: Moon Knight six months ago. I loved rereading those too. I was a bit disappointed in hte Essential Ghost Riders. They didn\'t pop like they use to.

I wish they would bring back the cheap paper and the ads. Anyone remember the Sea Monkeys ads? What about the 1000 toy soldiers for $10. I loved the Hostess Twinkie and Slim Jim ads too. The first time I heard of Battle Tech was on the back of a comic (the original game came with card board cut out Mechs and was called \'Battle Droids\'.

I got a CD-ROM of all the Fantastic Four comics, and the ads are there in all their glory!

It was in fact 100 army men for 1.00, but maybe you ordered 10!

Seriously though, the ads are the best part. It so reminds me of my childhood.

Does anyone remember when Marvel tried to pass Peter Parker off as a mutant? It was in the 90s when the mutant craze took off.

Budha, it got worse then passing spidey off as a mutant. \"The spirit of the spider\" tried to spin the story like Parker was destined to be the avatar of some spider God or something. It was written by Stracysnki, whom I normally like, but this one really ate llama dong.

If you liked essential Moon Knight I URGE you to go pick up the newest volumes of Moon Knight. The first three are in trades and it\'s excellent stuff. It starts off with him in his house, crazy, crippled, friendless and powerless. Nice work on an often over looked character. They really needed to move Moon Knight away from his \"poor man\'s Batman\" style of image and writing.

Man, I can\'t wait to get to the comic shop this weekend. I got the day booked off from the family to enjoy an epic size \"Rock Band\" Hangover. I\'ll scoop up the energy to go to the shop and get the goods then read the day away puking up bile from Sat. night rockfest. White Zombie tracks came out this week.

Guardedly. I don\'t watch trailers any more and avoid spoilers like the plague, so it\'s difficult to get a good take on things before they come out - imagery can be cool while the plot and acting can suck etc. etc. So I have my fingers crossed. Could be ace, could be a steaming pile of poo; impossible to tell yet.

Yes. That is crap. That is why I like Asian comics. They have a story line. It eventually ends. They start a new one.
