Don\'t knock the drunken chimps!
That\'s lovely. It\'s one of those paintings that you could look at again and again
Here are a couple of things I\'ve done recently and a WIP:
I call them beautiful monsters. I looked at hundreds of sad faces on google image search to get the faces just right. They\'re inspired by medieval and renaissance tapestries and manuscript illuminations. That and that Bosch guy, what\'s his name again?
I like the tension between the monster bodies and the boobies.

I\'m really glad everyone likes the painting. I chose it as it is my favorite view of London. Whenever friends come to visit, I show them this view.
Hieronymous - the first thing I thought when I saw your art was that it had a basis in medieval art. They had such a 2 dimensional stylised outlook to their art it was immediately obvious Looks like a medieval bestiary

I\'m double posting here, sorry but sue me.
These are WIP for the most part, but the in progess part\'s abit of a joke as since I started painting mini\'s again back in Easter, I haven\'t touched a canvas.
I think the photo\'s might be horrendously big, sorry but I don\'t know how to reduce them.

Thanks everyone! I never had the confidence to pursue painting, even though I was an art major in college until I started posting pictures of my minis here. CMON got my feet wet, so to speak.
Flemish art is one of my favorite influences. My wife and I went to Belgium in autumn of 1999 because our interest in Flemish art and music. We found out that there would be a huge tapestry exhibit, (there was a large quantity of tapestries and they were about seven by ten meters, huge!) and some pageants the following spring, so we went back the next May.
hubbahubba, I especially like the painting of yours with the nude woman, the man in the suit and the pig in the foreground. It really says a lot! The death figure reminds me of Edvard Munch.
That\'s it! I\'ve put off organizing my studio for too long! I\'m getting it done this weekend!:twisted:

@Hieronymus - WOW, you really live up to your name. Nice work. I especially like the one in the middle. What are the dimensions of these. What surface are you working on?
@hubbabubba - We share a bit of being \'painterly\' in our approach. Chunky, bold brushstrokes. You have a good feel for composition.

Thanks! There are some others posted in the chocolate kittens thread. These are all acrylic on panel. I want to get into egg tempera and oil painting again, eventually.
The one with the red background is pretty small about 3x5 inches, the one with the hat is about 9x11.5 inches and the unfinished basilisk woman is about 12x16 inches. The backgrounds are inspired by combining medieval decorative techniques with entoptic imagery. That\'s the stuff you see when you press on your eyelids or eat certain kinds of mushrooms or whatever.
I want to do large cut out panels in the shape of the monsters modeled in low relief with plaster and paint them and add things like pearls, gems and peacok feathers to the surface.

That\' sounds great, You mean you paint the backgrounds, i assumed you were painting over a pattern cause they seem so period. Thats even better Both of you have given me motivation to start oilpainting again.

Hey I rechognized that first painting on Kens site of the power plant, right out side of london right? Passed it on the train on the way to Gatwick.

Ok I guess it was pretty close to Victoria station, but yup thats the place I was thinking of. Its no longer working is it? it looked shut down.
Ive been to the Tate Modern too, great building and if you see the new movie Children of Men, its in the movie.

The background of the birdwoman with the hat was added after I drew in the figure. The vines swirl around in pairs to fill up the space. The tendrils coming off of the vines are also in pairs and each terminates in a frond of three little thingies. It helps being borderline obsessive with this, it makes the backgrounds more intense! It\'s a motif I found in the Hunting Book of Gaston Phoebus from the late 1300\'s.
