russian tactics where "shock armies" , millions of men to punch through to the french coast overwhelming everything in their path. nato tactics atomic artillery try n stop em in the passes. they estimated that the ruskys could be at the coast in 24 hours, life expectancy in berlin 30seconds. the worrying thing was that during certain planned nato excercise the ruskys moved their sixth shock armie by rail to the area opposite the excercise area and no one knew about it until several hundred thousand heavily armed extra spectators turned up.
unfortunately the american contingent in the battle reached their casualty quota early in the excercise by dropping their paratroopers on an electric railway line (rest in peace lads) and the excercise was brought to an early conclusion . im not sure memory's not that good could have been one of the excercises either side of crusader.

The French never wanted to play NATO's games so their strategy was to fire every nuke they had at Russia if western europe was invaded
Nato would channel attacks into passes and "take them out" from the air (helicopter gunships, FEA, A10's ) and resort to nukes if there was a breakthrough that couldn't be contained
The cancelled exercise was a result of a paratrooper heavy drop landing on the paras in fog. after they had landed in canals, on railway lines etc
Soviet doctrine would have been to space burst low yield nukes so the EMP would have crippled C&C then chemical hits on everything that showed resistance with spetnatz inserted to help things along....possibly the French threat may have averted any potential aggression?
BTW not a great fanboi of NATO (come to the aid of any member nation attacked? Pfft) should have stuck with the commonwealth....Australia said "what do you want!" (and meant it) when Argentina invaded the Falklands... QED

Certainly nicer than the Americans umming and ahhing during the conflict and when it was over proclaimed that they helped out lol!

I'd love to see more cooperation with the commonwealth we just need a future government who are switched on military wise (e.g not liberal democrats).

On the off topic topic of cold war scenarios it could have been quite interesting with NATO heavy tanks, challenger, leo, leclerc, m1 attempting to take on the waves of russian tanks when the russian doctrine was to avoid tank on tank warfare and deal with them via artillery instead. Quite interesting would have been an understatement but I'm damn sure the History and military channels would be happy at having another topic other than WW2 to create endless programs on!

This is so true. In fact, did you know after the business in Sierra Leone; a lot of the african nation wanted (Actually WANTED) us to remake it part of the colony!
After we cleaned up there, one of the factions terrorising the area with unspeakable things were pretty much annihilated down to the last man. Things got much better for the people living there. This is one reason I agree with the smart military argument, the bleeding hearts can whine about how bad wars are, but they should do the reserach first and meet the inocents who benifit from a better way of life through conflict. Some people just can't stand up for themselves and they need to be represented, everyone deserves a chance to be able to live a happy life.

Oh yeh I know a couple of pacifists who only see the bad side of wars, this gets me rather angry because I (and everyone else in Britain) have directly benifitted by war.

But enough of that, lets all grab a rifle and get on a plane to Africa and start sorting it out! Bring the whiskey though, and the tea...

Look at who funds all the "bad guys" around the world. Hint, the UK goverment is not a world wide friendly institution, it's run by the scum of the earth.

Luckily the army isn't controled by the government though, that's the queens jerb. The British army, I can tell you is not a fan of Mr Brown and his cronies.

Different Strokes...

Having seen that thing in real life at GD 2008 I can say from my point of view I was UNDERWHELMED.
Agreed, I saw a couple of the trailers for when they were making it and it is just from a normal tracked APC, bit naff really concidering what it is supposed to be like acording to the fluff.

If they were throwing money at it to get the thing built they could have done a lot better.

Certainly doesn't float my boat.
