Couple of greens

Hi guys, have just uploaded two new sculpts. (commissions)

They\'re renaissance soldiers, known as landsknechts. I will first make three for a command group (these + 1 ensign I\'m working on) then probably some RnF pikemen if Chris wants me to.

Drummer
Captain

Let me know what you think :)

Half decent.. ;)

You are a great talent, mate!! The way he holds those drumsticks looks so natural.

But I must say the greens are even more impressive in hand..

Superb!!! Would look great in a GW empire army (although thats probably cause GW was influended from the historical period!)

Any plans to cast these up?

Thanks for the comments!

@Avelorn: I agree.. Painted minis often look as good as or even better on pictures than IRL, while the opposite tends to be the case with greens. Not sure why but I guess it has to do with a lot of the sense of volume being lost in the photos (there is no \"faked\" volume like on painted minis).

@OrkyDave: Actually, standing next to empire figures, they don\'t really match very well. In style yes but proportionally no. They are the same height but the empire minis\' heads and hands are about twice the size of the ones on these :) \"Heroic\" scale and all that... That\'s the old imperials though (and the plastics mainly), I haven\'t compared against the newer ones.

Oh, and yeah they\'re getting cast. Not by me though. It might take a while before they\'re available for purchase but they will be eventually.

Apart from the sticks THEMSELVES, this is great :) Especially like the details like the drumming position of the fingers on the left hand :)

Although, there are a few inaccuracies - like the fact the drum itself it too vertical and the right hand\'s position, but you might not spot them unless you drum :D

Thanks guys,

@DaN: Cool, do you drum in an orchestra or a band? I used to drum too, or rather play a variety of percussion instruments. Even marched a couple of times, so I guess I should\'ve spotted the things you point out. But I agree now that you mention them.

As far as the drumsticks go, however, -contrary to what i too thought at first- several sources (among others contemporary woodcuts) suggested that the sticks used at the time wood have looked something like that. Ie. more like timpani sticks than modern drum sticks.

The good news are that the forearms and drum are separate so they can be positioned in a variety of ways.

the captain is less strong than the drummer. the sword and halberd do not work for me, they dont seem sharp or flat enough.

that aside, the sculpt and design on both figures are brilliant. i truly love these pieces for their sculpts. the instruments they carry are just a bit off.

captain: 8.7
drummer: 9.4

Thanks uber, I see where you\'re coming from re the weapons (though too thin may be problematic when casting). I\'ll keep it in mind :)

Yeah I guess - I wasn\'t thinkin historically.

I DID used to be in a marching band yeah, but I only ever played drums on a kit myself.

Great stuff, you pack so much detail into 28mm, and they\'re so well-proportioned - kind of like Degra\'s stuff but in GS :D I agree about the brown stuff blades on the captain, the lines on the sword look a bit strange, but I can see how having them too thin would present a casting problem. The way you sculpt clothing and armour is amazing.
