Phew! At least it wasn\'t against the far superior and original Czech Budweisser - Budvar. I know the yank version has been filing lawsuits forever :p

Um.... Read a little more closely please:

\"Bitburger based its opposition on the existence of its own national trademark \"BIT\" and the earlier figurative trademarks \"BIT\" and \"Bitte ein Bit\", which it said were close to the word \"Bud\".\"

Bitburger brought the action not Budweiser and it was them claiming that Bud was too close to Bit, not the ohter way around.

Yes, Budweiser sucks. Never drink the stuff. But let\'s try to get the story straight. ;)

Horses for courses

Tonight with dinner I had a cold bottle of Lowenbraue Octoberfest - and normally I would prefer any German or Bohemian beer over good old Bud - but sitting in a restaurant in Florida in the middle of August a few years ago a couple of ice-cold pitchers of Budweiser went down a real treat.

In some countries, take the Netherlands for example, you can purchase and drink certain alchohols in pubs etc... 49 weeks to go for me!

Ah well, there\'s a place and time for everything :D and some beer, even one that may be a tad wanting, is almost always better than no beer :)

Bud is piss water.

Bitburger is a far superior beer. And German beer is rarely warm. It\'s proper, ice cold lager most of it, not luke warm rat-in-a-cask real ale.....:flip:

You can\'t talk about Buttwiper like that. They still use scantily clad women in their adds and occasionally their television commercials. Butt, then, most american beers are water aren\'t they?

Wait... does this trademark thing mean that if we use the word \'Bud\' in casual conversation without referring to cheap and crappy beer while doing so, that we have to pay Budweiser for doing so?

Trademarking words is just plain stupid.

Ooooh... that hurts. I agree, most people have no taste and drink whatever swill water is forced down their throats by mass market advertising. Much like music and art, but thats another topic completely.

I\'m a beer snob through and through, though. The craft or \"micro\" business has taken off greatly recently in the US, and even more than ever the push is toward big character ales. By big character I mean not only in alcohol content, but also in flavors stemming from an increase in the variety and amount of hops, grains, yeasts, and even botanicals and fruits. The stuff isn\'t for everyone, but then again, most people suck. :D

These days I find a beer less than 7% to be light, and even the German beers I used to love taste flavorless to me. Much, much too smooth.

Lately I\'ve been into anything from Stone Brewery. Go to arrogantbastard.com for one of their more popular brews. Great Divide makes some killer double IPA. Though stouts aren\'t my thing, I bought a mixed case of Weyerbacher, and by the end of it they really grew on me. At 8% it makes Guiness look like Koolade.

I agree with most of you - American beer is TERRIBLE. I had the displeasure of having a can on St. Patrick\'s Day in San Diego - never again shall I make such a mistake!

From now on, only Canadian, European and Asian beer... Basically just no American mule piss. :D

I wouldn\'t say that ALL American beer sucks. The giant breweries suck: Budwieser, Miller, Coors. Some of the small breweries do alright. Most Sam Adams\' are okay. Shiner Bock is good. Yuengling is pretty good. And as JakeSh said, the craft & micro brews are okay.

And I wouldn\'t say that all Canadian beers are good. I like SOME Canadian beer, but to me, Labatt\'s is nothing more than Canadian mule piss.:|~

I attended a beer convention here in Stockholm a few weeks ago and triedsome pretty amazing American beers (all of them from micro breweries). One in particular that stuck out from the crowd was a beer called Gonzo Imperial Porter (in memory of Hunter S. Thompson) from Flying Dog Breweries from Denver. An fantastic beer!! And so was plenty of others, I must say! So, don\'t judge all American beers after the major labels!
