Been thinking about this whole financial mess thing. Ya think this whole thing may have been allowed/caused to happen so something can replace what now is? Sort of like - ooops, letting the house burn down so we (fill in your favorite villain/savior) can build something different (better, worse, fair, unfair, etc...)????
Look up \"
disaster capitalism\".
\"...practitioners of the shock doctrine tend to seek a blank slate on which to create their ideal free market economies, which inevitably requires an usually [sic] violent destruction of existing economic order.\" - Wikipedia
(If you are a fan of laissez-faire evangelist Milton Friedman you may not like what you hear)
The general idea being, when people are scrambling to survive or deal with a radically changing situation, it\'s the perfect time for government to do whatever their big business buddies want, announce it as a done deal, and implement it before the general public has had time to figure out what the hell is going on.
I might believe this if it hadn\'t been readily apparent to anyone who watched the banks that this was going to happen. The New York Times predicted this back in 1996. I pulled my bank stock out 5 years ago when I realized they were giving substantial housing loans to illegal immigrants.
The book also alleges those pesky \"Neocons\" have a lot to do with it. Well, that\'s all fine and dandy until you do a little research and find this has been coming since the Carter administration and was sped up tremendously by the Clinton Administration. Over the years there have been many Republican attempts to regulate Fannie Mae/Freddy Mac, a fact which even President Bill Clinton admits to.

tried to pass S. 190 [109th]: Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, in which regulation was to be put on FMae/FMac. Democrats let it be known that this would be a party vote and that they would filibuster, Republicans not having the 60 votes necessary to force it through had to drop the bill. It never made it out of committee.
It is also documented the President Bush warned Congress 17 times in 2008 alone to do something about the two GSE\'s.
Some like to blame the government for derugulating many of the banks, but this seems to be a canard, since many economists are saying that deregulation of the banks allowed them to spread into other areas making them able to spread the blow more evenly when all the bad mortgages hit. That had de regulation not occurred almost every bank would have simultaneously crashed, being, much, much worse. The deregulation had no effect on FMae and FMac since these were GSE\'s under different regulations.
Personally, I believe everyone involved, Democrat, Republican, CEO\'s, everyone who took \"campaign contributions\" (read bribes)
on this
LIST should have their heads delivered on a plate to the taxpayers. Literally. Well, after giving the money back.
Notice this would take out all Presidential Candidates with the exception of Bob Barr the Libertarian Party candidate who hasn\'t got a chance in hell of winning. I say it defaults to him because he\'s the least crooked.
There is so much involvement, all of which was beyond the scope and powers listed in the enumerated powers of Congress in the US Constitution, and there will never be an investigation.
I have written my Congressmen and demanded one. I advise you all to do the same.
