I\'ve received a three day ban from that bloody Theology site again. I think it was for a personal attack on some red neck, but it\'s hard to say. The site is not a theology site in the true sense of the study of scripture, God, salvation, etc., but rather a place for people to peddle young earth creationism tripe and tell people they\'re going to hell. I don\'t like that mentality so I occasionally get banned. I\'m agnostic by the way.

Being the only agnostic who is also an Anthropologist by education and believes in the Theory of Evolution and all . . . in a family full of devout Presbyterians and Catholics you just learn to pick your battles. Those people will eventually kill themselves off anyway . . . I mean, look at the reasons for many wars starting in the first place? They seem to have religious pretense on some level.

The problem as I see it is that they seem bent on taking sensible people with them in thier bid to destroy themselves.

Ah well. I know better (or should by now) than to get involved in a religous debate. I grew up in a cult and it took half a life time to come to terms with it. I say we all get :drunk: and play pool instead.

With a name like reverend I should have assumed you to be agnostic.

I find that religion and politics are things suited for all media except forums. I include evolution in with religion as even the scientific community is split about it and fieldarchy in her reply uses the the word belief. There isn\'t enough inflection in the written word to properly convey a point and most of the people who start those kinds of wars are more prepared to start them then finish them.

I myself started a mess on these forums when I linked to a set of creationist videos. But, unlike most sites, this was a fairly respectable conversation with good information presented by the people involved. I don\'t think any such thing would show up on that theology site.

Religion requires an open seeking mind to pour drivel into, or a state funded lie that is constantly repeated, and just a grain of truth to attach itself to a person. From then on, changing a mind is really difficult. The one exception is that young Christians who go to state schools in the US have a huge turnover into evolution believing agnostics or atheists. I have a belief that more liberal minded individuals are seeking positions in schools and are using that platform to influence our youth. That is not to say that they are seeking the platform to influence our youth.

I do remember one biology teacher getting me so angry. She claimed I had inaccurately drawn an evolutionary tree. That the traits I decided were linked weren\'t the correct ones. Since I do not believe in macro evolution, I simply pointed out that her certainty was odd as the things that she purported to be gospel on how this creature evolved into these different creatures happened \"millions of years ago.\" I doubt she was around to watch it and know exactly what happened. I did not do well on the evolution part of that biology class. In hindsight, I should have just asked to be excused from that part of the class for religious reasons.

If you dig below the surface you will always find some very mundane reasons for most conflicts. The religious rhetorics is mostly used to mobilize the masses and gain legitimacy.

What did you say that got you banned? Obviously you didn\'t tell them to go to hell:p.

How about \"Stop breeding - you are weakening the species.\"

Seriously, if you enjoy debates about evolution, creationism, intelligent design, etc., you should check out the \"Skeptic\'s Guide to the Universe\" website. They put out a great podcast weekly and also have some good blogs about this and similar issues. I credit vincegamer with turning me on to their site.

treide have you ever seen the movie Idiocracy? That will give you a glimpse into the future using the theory that the smart people don\'t make as many babies as the dumb people (which actually seems to hold true).

Ritual is channeling Karl Marx... though he is not wrong in this case:p

No, but if it is like Mike Judge\'s other stuff, it is probably worth watching for the social commentary. Thanks for the tip - I\'ll add it to my Netflix list.
