2012 come and get me!
Well I have to admit I heared about the 2012 on a page dedicated to Erich v. Däneken, the paleo-astronaut/SETI inventor. He thinks ancient cultures (maya, egypt, inca, mesopotamia) had contact with extraterrestriel high-tech beings; he claims they´ll come over in 2012 to verify his claims ... thigh.
The thing with the maya calendar \'ending\' is a bit hard to understand because the mayan´s view on time differs from ours. They imagined the history of the world as a succession of cycles without a real beginning or end - the was no \'end\' of the world, rather some king of restart/reset. I´m not an expert though, that´s just how I understand it. Same idea in vedic india by the way, one yuga ending and an other one starting anew so the thought is not that unique.
Hope this was valuable in some way.
