Here is Robot Witch some straps added to her mask. Not sure what color to paint the ribbons hanging from her waist. they look an awful lot like purity seals to me.

What do you guys think?

Are the dark sword ladies fairly petite? Sometimes Dark sword stuff is like WTF?! How am I gonna paint that? I can't even see that!

They're pretty good sized. Maybe slightly smaller than Reaper mini's but a little bigger than the Infinity models. The sculpts are really nice. I feel like that makes them easier to paint.

Hmm, not sure if I'm scared of the robot witch now or enamored by her *charms* - nope. Still scared o_O I really like the palette! My entry is almost done. I used James' technique again with some powders and some AB OSL to try and push myself and I think I'll have it painted in about 5 hours total. It's kinda cartoony. Not a great job, but I just really wanted to see how far I could push the level in very little time. I'll likely turn it into another (much shorter) video in time lapse too :)

Awesome! Yeah I find I spend more and more time setting up my painting and less time with the brush actually in my hand. Ineed to knock out some dwarves and then maybe have a basing/mini cleaning party. Or just really focus on basing? I like basing but I don't really enjoy it after dinner, you know what I mean?

Odd, I think i might be the opposite. I start to bog down in the prep and then get excited after primer, then lose steam some where in the painting and then when the basing kicks in I'm all super excited and have to slow down so i don't rush through and ruin everything.

Is this code for something? It feels like code for something.

Those ribbony bits are sure narrow, but making them scripty would probably suit the Dark Age thang. That perforated eye is really looks really nice, well done!

Aaaand yeah, if minis could show up perfectly cleaned and assembled and primed and ready to paint, I'd be a happy Sionid. I envy anyone who actually enjoys prep, I bet you end up noticing mold lines halfway through a paint job a lot less often >_>

Depends a lot on the prep for me. I have no problem cleaning mold lines and flash while watching TV, but pinning and gluing and filling gaps... that drives me crazy in no time. Dark Age minis have pretty decent casts, little cleanup needed and many are single piece. However, some (such as Mean Jellybean, which I consider as my contest piece) have multiple fiddly parts that are bound to break off during painting.

Either way, I really like the witch so far. Are you planning to keep the colors muted like this?

Yay!

Sionid, it is code for something.... o_O No, it's not, I just do all my basing and gluing and filing in the garage and I paint in the office in my comfy chair. They are two totally different processes for me, and lately with setting up masks for the air brush or pouring gallons of resin all over everything I seem to be spending more and more time in the garage.

Oistene, I will probably pump up the colors a little more. the rusty red is growing on me but I am trying to do some NMM on her face and shoulders and not sure where that is going. As I find my way I will add to what I have down now. I am not the best at picking colors out. Lately I have been really happy copying box art, and then tweaking it a little. That is sort of what I am doing here but I wanted to go with warm skin, and no face, so I am feeling a little lost on my color scheme. When I pick my own colors I am reminded of Motorhead's credo: Everything Louder than Everything Else. So I will try for muted, but don't be surprised if she ends up with a red-blue-green-yellow-nmm color scheme :)

I'll get some progress shots up today.

In the mean time here is some classic Motorhead, speaking of basing, nice bass solo on this one:

Oddly, I really enjoy prep after a long day at work, throw a movie in with a beer and relax. I feel like it takes a little less attention to prep than sitting and painting. I have one mini I'm nearly done with, just need to paint the handle of a sheathed knife and do some freehand on the tabard and it's done, but I've put it off for the past 3 days to prep two ogres for GW's Chaos Shrine...

You're hired! Seriously, I bet you could sell nicely prepped mini's for more than I could sell nicely painted ones. Get a nice base together, nice smooth coat of primer...

Okay, I think I am actually getting somewhere with my "stinking iron mask" I got NMM and TMM on there so that should be worth some points right? Pretty happy with the straps too. Might add bit of a horizon line to the eye protector thing. For now I am going to move onto the rest of the mini and come back later for some touch-ups

I could always offer the prep work as a service, just ship the minis that are needing prep out, I'll get them all worked up and primed and shipped back for a fee lol

Could even set up a barter system since my painting skills are still developing lol

I'm really digging the colors. Looks great so far.

Thanks guys, i am going to do her leg armor, shoes and handle to her wand to match the helmet, should be easier than the helmet was. Thinking about freehand for the robes.

Well then you have to go with some kind of cog toothed pattern on the edges or circles with teeth of different sizes to throwback to her face o_O

looking fantastic, love the helmet straps look great. lovely colours, I do think her chest looks a little sun burnt at the moment though. good pink transition but needs some dark brown.
