Digga, she is sleepy looking right? I guess the sculpt is supposed to look resigned to her fate or maybe in some kind of battle trance but it does look a little dopey. I think I am going to flip the eyes so she is looking down instead of up. Maybe that will make more sense with her heavy lids and downward movement. It might make her look a little more genuinely angry instead of just annoyed too.
That actually might work. Can't wait to see it, is she going to be part of a dio or a standalone?

Welcome back, Hope your feeling better Zab, I have a head cold at the mo, feel like slimer from ghost busters has just slaped me in the face.

The skin tones are looking good, I will prep the dwarves some time soon, just like you I struggle for more than a hour which goes so fast. I try to do 1 thing a day, yesterday was 1 coat of light grey in preperation for cool white cloth on the helldo rado crusader. Then I was ambushed with hugs from my 20 month old who stealthed a bottle of GW sepia wash and drenched her clothes and carpet with it. Might get some secret weapon washes next . . . and buy some more to make postage worth while.

Sure, she "stealthed" it ;) That is how i made room for more terrain when the wife said no more. Here sweety, play with this - oh noes, did it break? Oh well daddy will get something to replace it...Muwahahahahahahahahahahahaha!:sinister:

So my e-bay auctions all sold! They all sold for $29 each which is great although there was no bidding. It did not prove to be very lucrative but I had fun painting so there you go. The other thing is that now I have some guilt-free hobby money!

Also have an update on the sword maiden:

[Edit: better pic]

She's pretty much done. I have scrapped the scifi base and am working on rocky base with a big tree.

So what should I buy? FW Elspeth on a dragon? Balrog? something from this guy:

Damn she's looking good. If you're looking for cool fantasy minis, I totally bought the druid on giant hare from Ax Faction. Don't look at that site. Seriously, you'll regret it...

tempting linky:

Although, that mother superior with neophyte looks pretty boss...

Very nice Demi. Can't see what you did to the eyes though. And from that side pose she kind of looks feline. None the less good job. Definately go for the Svarogminiatures, I love seeing new and fresh sculpts/minis

Okay here is a quick update on the sword maiden's base. Digga, you are correct that I did not change her eyes. I did a quick photo shop of it and changing the eyes didn't really seem to help. BTW, congrats on the Bigsquig! It's awesome to see you progress.

Took that picture and posted this with my new tablet phone, a Samsung note 3. It's pretty neat :) although i did have to download an app to resize the photo. I am interested to see how it looks on the ipad or the PC.

Also the terminators are nearly done. I have pictures, I just need to sit down and write up a nice post for them. They are good but not incredible. They should make nice adversaries for the Knob Mob.

Thanks Demi. I hope everyone likes the giant squig. Was a fun project to work on. Just not sure what to work on next now. Awesome dio you got going there with the sword maiden. I think what you did with the war paint over her eyes was brilliant. Fixed the eyes and made her a badass in one swoop.

Nice! Way better than what i had pictured in my head. I think you've done it again! You seem to have a knack for making fairly dated minis really shine :)

Lol, no war paint... just some shading. Looks like I need to do some testing with the new phone's photo capabilities. I do like painting the old minis. I feel like I am less bound by convention. But never fear we will be tackling some serious pieces in the next few months.

Got some really nice new paint brushes today. A new #2 and a couple series 7 miniature brushes, a zero and a 3 I think. The miniature brushes have much shorter bristles so the point is a bit stiffer but they hold less paint and have less 'belly' (?) Also got a 7 series #4 that is gorgeous. I think I could just paint with it for the rest of my career. :) if you're ever in Santa Cruz CA check out Lenz Art. They have great brushes and really do a good job of taking care of them.

Demi; the No7 miniatures are aimed at watercolour miniatures on paper not acrylics so their use is very limited for us. I've fallen into that trap myself.
Don't get your hopes up too much as I found that they don't have enough of a reservoir to keep acrylics working on a miniature.

Yep done the same myself bloody nightmare especially when they cost so much! Got a 1 and a 0 that I've been using for the last couple of years (normal size ) keep cleaning them and conditioning them they're still good even with all the abuse I give them well worth the money!

Hmm, they were on sale for like $12 each so I might keep them. They let me play with the brushes in the store with just water and they seemed like they might be nice for freehand and eyes. The # 2 &4 were the proper brushes so I am still happy with those.

How in the name of sweet bleedin HayZeus did I miss this thread ?

There is some awesome stuff going on here.
Especially the little one. :) Congrats there.

Some really nice work here. Loved the dragon diorama.

So I actually am very happy with the #2 Windsor & Newton 7 series miniature brush. It has a very predictable point and a nice round belly that is nice for edges. I think it is going to be good for edging and starting details. The "0" is a little too small.

Okay the termies are basically done. I did take some pictures of the progress but they aren't great and I just don't feel like I have the time for a step-by-step.

What do you think of them?

They are still not in the gallery but I am pretty much done looking at them. I guess these guys fall into the experimental project category.

I had some good success with some of the battle damage technique, quick shading the white helmets with ink and matte medium, and I really like how my marble bases turned out. I plan to do soem more of that and will post a some instructions with pictures some day.

Orange power weapons and marbled skull cross thingies... not so much. Also I really don't like storm bolters, more prep would have gone a long way to make those guns look a little less lumpy but the 4 identical models with crappy casts were discouraging. I probably could have gone further with the freehand but these aren't really "display" minis so i didn't push it.

I will take some more pics and put these in my gallery and it is one step closer to finishing the ancient and curs'd Black Reach box!
