Here is the first try at the dead guy head. I am wondering if those shadows aren't too strong.

What with Skellettets running the contest and BloodAsMedium getting every one fired up, I thought I would break out some "TMM" too. Got creative with the Metal Medium for some frosty effects.

Looks a little green here...

Okay, he is in there. He looks pretty dead. Need to work on my OSl a tad more, and maybe darken him more to make him look a little smaller in there, but I like it!

Knocked his hand off cramming his head in. Good thing he is dead already.

I like the dark, kind of makes me want to go way way farther on the space suits.

Wow pretty good! Don't push the contrast on the suits yet. Tack 'em on the base and see how they play next to the asteroid first.

Very cool. I really like the light on his face! I even kind of dig the missing hand. Maybe just put the name 'Luke S' on his suit and you're all set.

I agree with Zab, be wary going too far with the dark colors on the suits. You can do deeper shadows in the hands (well, hand) and then maybe try a little here or there around major details in the suit. But I wouldn't go overboard darkening all of those folds in the white. Keep some sense of scale with variation in your shadows. Of course seeing the whole scene together might make it a little clearer what needs more and what doesn't.

Just struck by an idea. In assuming we aren't looking at the dead astronaut through the glass of his visor. Can u somehow sculpt or make glass shards remaining on his helmet in front of his face. Not sure exactly how, maybe use plastic from the blister pack.

Thanks guys!

The helmet shards are a good idea! I just found a nicely rounded piece of plastic, so maybe i will incorporate that in this next stage of the project: Aliens! When I started this project I really wanted to do some kind of pulp space opera type thing. Then, painting the first astronaut and doing some research on his suit I really got into the straight "historical" aspect. Now I am back to the "Alien Fart Bubbles":

Fun with insta mold! Although it was a leap of faith to use it on my painted minis.. :teeth: The idea is that the aliens are shape-shifter mimic type blobs. I am pretty happy with my start, I think it is a big step in the direction of pulpy space monsters. The other alien is going to be coming out dead guys helmet. Then I just need to paint them.... super fast!

Hmm..so you cast that alien by using your painted mini on some sort if medium? That, my friend, takes balls. Looks like it paid off well though. What exactly is the mold you used??

You could have little tentacles coming out of dead guy's nostrils and mouth, crawling out over the BROKEN GLASS that someone gave you the idea to add. ;)

Thanks guys.

BAM it's just a press mold. ;)

BFoK, it's Instant Mold. It's in the CMON shop but it looks like it is out of stock. I think it is available on Amazon. It's a pretty fun tool to have in the tool box. Basically it's plastic with about the consistency of a hot glue stick. You put it in hot water and it gets super soft. Once it gets back to room temp it is "hard again", but even when it is hard it is very flexible so it is easy to peel off your form. It's great for making press molds and it is reusable.

I used it for my KO'ed Dread base a while back:

Liking the alien spaceman very "the thing" style. Is it morphing into a human or splitting out into it's alien form ? If going alien add some sinew between parts to add to the impression it's revealing itself. Stellar work

Damn, I've got to get me some of that Instant Mold... Seems better than then my usual post-greenstuff-gap-filling habbit, namely to throw away 80% of the GS I mixed. Ending with a rather pecuiliar collection of blobs, nuggets, and floppy cones... It seems handly to have a little mold ready with some iconography, helmets, or other thingamajigs and doodads.

But the mutatonaut is looking awesome. I'm looking foward to some stretched mucus between his extremities later on :).

Thanks WGS! I keep asking myself "What would Wargamesculptor do?" Not sure how much time (or skill) i have for sinew, but if you got "The Thing" I know i am on the right track! Any tips on doing really small tendrils? I guess he is morphing into the astronaut, but I will be happy if folks get "morphing".

Meph: Welcome to my WIP, you goddamn sonofabitch! It was you and your salt mask on the Large Blood Angels Terminator that got me started on the CMON. I learned it by watching you Meph!
