Demihuman's DemiWIP

Yes to giant skeletons. That dio sounds very ambitious. Just make sure you give yourself enough time brother. That's a lot of work, and with water you never know what can happen, from what I have seen/heard. Personally hate Reaper but every now and again they make a figure that is pretty damn cool, and this is one.

BFoK, I have three months and the prize is like a $50 gift certificate so if I take too long it's no biggie. On the other hand, the Ork Shaman painting contest and then the 5th dimension contest really really made me push myself. So, I am looking forward to seeing where this next project goes. Also, last year toward the end of October, I started this WIP with the intention of painting one gallery mini a month. I have done that (basically, still have another month or so) so I am looking forward to taking a little longer on a project and being a little more fussy :)

In other news, the astronaut dio made it to the "9's"!!!!!!!!!! WTF! At the beginning of this WIP I stated my goal as "8's" and boom - shoot for the moon! Pretty stoked on that!

Have still been chugging along on the fusilier squad. I also got a funky tray base plan to make them a little more interesting. Here is my progress on the team so far:

OOOH! I also have a nice tip for NMM: When you are trying to place your highlights, I have found it helpful to put just water on my brush, wipe a little water on the mini, and then look for reflections. By moving the mini around you can preview your highlight. Pretty basic, but, I think, quite useful.

So just water. As opposed to very very thinned paint. No, no need to thin it. it is just water. I guess you could thin the water with alcohol? Consisteny of skimmed milk... Oh no no, don't thin your paint with skimmed milk, that's not going to work at all.

Alien Fart Bubbles definitely deserves the 9+, well done!

The armor on the Infini-minis is looking really cool, especially on the hacker's chest. Looks like your watery technique lends itself well to superslick futuristic NMM.

Congrats on the 9+ very well deserved for a great idea and execution. The infinity models are looking great to and still resisting the temptation to get some (liking the look of two factions and not being able to decided helps on this one)

Congrats demi. You earned it. Feels good doesn't it.. don't lie you know that elated feeling is only matched by that of buying a new car.

I feel like AFB should be well into the 9s. For a project to get Editor's Choice on P&P, it's got to be pretty amazing and this generally transfers into like a 9.6 here on CMON. So you should not be surprised that it did do well. You are an amazing artist and have grown quite a bit even in the short time I've been on here.

How about starting our own painting crew? West Coasters like me, you, Bailey? Wesside!!!! Joking I don't pretend to be on y'alls level. But it is a thought for the future...

The bottom three Infinity figures really speak to me. I like them better just because I am not a fan of crazy hair colors and such. The first of the bottom 3 figures you did EXCELLENT on her face. Keep it up bro it is great to see your successes!!!!!

Thanks Everybody!

BFoK: Wessiiiiiiide!

I am really having fun painting my little Infinity army. Got some work done on the Bagh-Mari. They are supposed to be jungle fighters so they are bright green.... I can hear Bloodfathers teeth grinding all the way from Washington state. In the game there is a lot of stealth suits and ECM so I think a shiny "camo" mask is OK. Plus it is fun to paint :)

Borrowed a little from Jahmini's WIP on the shiny green helmet, and finally tackled the clunky gun. I thought about giving it some more colors but really just wanted it to look as small as possible. In the new range of minis for these guys they have replaced the over sized barrel on this gun and I think it is a huge improvement.

Still have the knife left, the sensor thing on his belt, and his gauntlets.

Actually, that green mask came out awesome. I really like how you highlighted it. Now for some bright NMM on the knife. But those colors are working very well together somehow.

Yep, the green with the orange lenzes works fantastic.
If I had the time and the mùoney to spare, Infinity's definitely a game I'd check out. They have some cool minis.

Not a fan of infinity models..but this makes me see how wonderful they. A aging how a well painted model can make you want a mini that one would otherwise have no interest in . Hence is the art/science of miniature paintjng. Well done. (Still no spell check, is there a medal voting system for the worst speller award ) lol

My posts tend to look like yours BaM because of my autocorrect. Can't tell you how many time "of" comes out as "if." The key is to hit the edit post button and go back in and fix after proof reading. :)

Thanks!

Hoping to get green dude done over the weekend and then I have one more infinity model to to paint and I will be done with my starter army. The last fig is Joan of Arc. In the Infinity world the idea is that they have some how figured out a way to clone people. So all the factions go around and clone their historical leaders and badasses then load them up with cybernetics and laser guns. Pretty nifty actually. We are playing Eclipse Phase in the RPG group right now and there is a ton of over-lap between the two games.

Joan is sculpted a bit better than the other troops I have painted so far. I pinned and glued Joan's arms on and gave her a relatively simple base on a piece of smashed alarm clock radio. If you have an alarm clock radio I urge you to smash it and use the pieces for hi-tech rubble bases. :)

I am excited to paint one of these mini's that I have prepped myself. I tried really hard to get all the mold lines nice and smooth and my glue joints small and hidden. I have been using Vallejo putty. It has some good properties like drying fast and being water soluble but I wish it was a little tougher once it was dry.

^^ those buttons are going to be great for little OSL lights.

Not sure if I am happy with the pose. She looks a little off balance in that last picture, and I wonder if her arms a little too symmetrical. She looks fine in the first picture...

Here is her box art:

I also picked up a piece of terrain for them all to live on. It's from Plastic Craft. http://www.plastcraftgames.com/en/ It was very cheap and seems pretty cool. i don't have a lot of experience with terrain. The one thing that is key though is to get some slow drying super glue to place the pieces. The corrugated panels are just cardboard and the other panels are foamed PVC. So they will tear if you have to break apart a bad super glue joint. My white glue did seem to work nicely though...

Going to load the hi-tech container up with a bunch of graffiti. Should be fun! :D

Last, but not least, I started a WIP over on the Reaper forums: http://forum.reapermini.com/index.p...-of-the-colossus-wip-02911-colossal-skeleton/

I have a soft spot for all things Reaper. When I first started out painting it was with Reaper Paints and some Reaper models: http://www.coolminiornot.com/334427 ( A "4"??? @#&! sinpers - lol) Last year Zab and I entered their Dragon painting contest and, I feel, got snubbed. So I am going to go over there to do a SBS of my next piece for Putty and Paint. That'll teach 'em! I'll post updates here too, but if you are lurking come on over and give me a shout-out on the Reaper board.

I think you've got the pose just right as her feet are on two levels, where the box art is on one. Human beings look unbalanced when stepping or running so I say go with it.
Now all she needs is a cool name like alien fart bubbles and your on to a winner (can't believe how far that went ! LOL )

I am actually related to Joan of Arc. Jeanne D'Arc, as they call her. At least, grandma Ramey tells me I am...

I can't believe that submission got a 4. It's like, dude it's based, shaded and highlighted, and really not that bad. Amazing that it scored so low. Strange...

Thanks guys!

BFK, I'll take the "4" Just more fuel for my fire. :soldier:

Okay, my Fusiliers are basically done! Finally sat down and watched the pigment how to videos on the You tube. The pigment wash I think is what I was missing out on. Here is the vid:

Did a little rusty mud on the bases then a powdering of grey.

Had to do some SENMM on dudes visor. Supposed to be night sky line for ground. Might need to add a catch light.

NMM Knife. Pretty basic, but effective i think.

View attachment 31910

Finally figured out how to paint gems :D Maybe it's time to tackle that Wraithlord!

View attachment 31911

Nice pants! Anime NMM Demi-style not too shabby either.

View attachment 31912

Might need to do alittle more work on the face. The eyes are there but hard to see.

View attachment 31913

Also got Joan base coated with the Air Brush. I think she looks much better.

^^ Those picts are at 400 pixels. You guys like 'em bigger or is this okay?

Awesome looking squad Demi and the skyline on the visor is phenomenal for the size of model. Look forward to seeing what you do with Joan
