Cool. All of the Diesel Machine is great. I have only heard his demo bits of the new album, though I have lots of his other stuff (Yngwie and the like)...

Just for anyone who isn\'t now aware... Dimebag is NOT dead, it was a prank by the band.

???

What he said.... Your joke is in rather poor taste...

Um, I\'m not joking. Or did you mean the band? Not sure if i need to get defensive and shouty... ???

What prank are you talking about? The newstories were true, weren\'t they? Have you different information?

Dude, present us this story showing it is a joke by the band. Otherwise don\'t post crap like that.

It is an obituary forum and you make jokes about it.... very cool of you.

They are dead, some shot up, that\'s all the truth.

What Alleycat is refering to is some dumbass posting on a forum somewhere that it was a prank and that \'thanks to all our fans showing support\' .. blah, blah.

Anyhow, to put things to rest a bit, yes, the shooting did occur, yes, people are dead, no, it wasn\'t a prank.

don\'t get so wound up Zaphod, lighten up for goodness sake. There\'s no need starting to scream and shout for retribution just because someone got their facts wrong....

End of the day, it\'s a shame people get so stupid about celebs that they shoot them, but to be honest, he was hardly a John Lennon now, was he? Good guitarist, but nothing special in my book... I\'m more fussed about the hundreds of people who die each day in Irak or other wartorn countries.

well he was buried last week, guys from slipknot and other bands turned up, Phil Anselmo has commented that he was sorry he never had a chance to properly say goodbye, and there is a fund for donation to help support the victims of the shootout. How can that be a joke?

And Tammy, you are right, but I think he was one of the best metal guitarists in the world. If not the best in his genre.

Well, I wasn\'t shouting and screaming. I just think it is in poor taste. Though I should just let it go anyhow...

I disagree. If you are a fan of the Beatles, then you are a Lennon fan. If you are a fan of Pantera, then you are a Dimebag fan. What is the difference? What Lennon was to his genre of music and different styles to come, Dimebag was to Power metal and undoubtedly different styles to come.

At any rate, I didn\'t post in this thread to argue about who is a legend and who isn\'t. It is about the senseless waste of a great musician and for people to pen their thoughts on the matter... that is why I was upset with the joke. Sorry if it was hearsay... I thought he made it up.

Considering one of my best friends from the COBRA costuming group was friends with Mayhem (the bodyguard who was killed) and has been quite upset about it, it disturbs me that this \'prank\' line is being perpetuated...

Yeah, I still have a lot of friends in the music industry- not the kind of job you expect there to be a risk of violent death. It just sucks any way you look at it and is a real human tragedy. Part and parcel of that crazy random seeming chaos that surrounds us. A lot of things had to fail along the way to get to what happened there. It is just good if we can be nice to eachother here and go easy so there is at least one safe place to hang out for a while with friends. That is what is important here. It is important to vent too- much better this way n\'est ce pas?
I am again just sorry to hear it happened.

I shouldn\'t even post a reply to this, but this is bothering me...

Tammy and Becca, are you implying/stating that somehow one person\'s life is more valuable than another? Personally, I think any time someone has their life taken from them for no good reason it is tragic, no matter if they were a John Lennon or not.

no, i\'m implying that Lennon wasn\'t just a musician, but was an active fighter for social change and general betterment of western society in the 60\'s. He took the responsibility of his fame to try to change the wrongs perpetuated by both the government and the press, took an active stance against the vietnam war, racism, freedom of speech, human rights and women\'s rights. He was more than a musician, a very important exponent of the social change brought about in the 60\'s and early 70\'s.

all i\'m saying is that he will be remembered and honoured for that, and not just his music, and THAt is why he has made a bigger impact with his life and consequent death than any power metal guitarist could ever hope to achieve.

Well, my life would certainly have gone alot better thus far if I had learned the wisdom of those words a long time ago. But in an attempt to try and start to learn it now, I have deleted my response to Tammy :)

So, nothing personal Tammy, just a difference of opinion, back to painting...

:)

Sorry to dig this up but i just got back to it... Zaphod and Darth, i was not joking but stating what i believed to be facts... I don\'t believe anything in my tone could have led people to believe that i was joking.

I was a huge fan of Pantera in the \'Cowboys\' and \'Vulgar\' days, and was saddened to learn that the shooting did indeed occur. The premise that it was a prank by the band did seem odd, but sometimes desire to believe overrides common sense a little.

That said, jumping on someone before finding out where they\'re coming from is needless...

R.I.P. Dimebag, you were awesome.

I, for one, didn\'t \'jump on you\'. Call you out on a false statement, maybe. That\'s far from \'jumping on you\'.

Perhaps next time a more reserved statement of \'I read on site x that it was a hoax\' might be in order. Just sayin\'.

*raises pint*
