Glyn - look at the Pantera entry here:

http://www.bnrmetal.com/

What makes it really sad after seeing that Darrell did 4 albums before Cowboys is that means he was able to entertain and make people hapy for some 20 years and then some idiot takes his life.
:(

Ah! I\'m glad you found that Primeval. I was trying to find something similar because I was fairly sure I\'d seen them do a show - lead on for somebody - back in the early/ mid 80\'s. However, my memories from say the mid 60\'s to the late 80\'s are... um... shall we say... a bit... smokey ???:bouncy:

I don\'t personally think that gun control laws have one thing to do with this.

I doubt that the killer would have backed out of his plans simply because the tool he used was illegal.

Just goes to show how one sick person can ruin many peoples lives.

I never really got into Pantera, but I did like Cowboys from Hell, cool song.

He shouldn\'t have had one in the first place........?????

Well he certainly was one of my all time favourites ( along with phil anselmo ) . First the breakup of Pantera, then some lunatic shooting the band to crap? This is really sad news :(

And you think that making them illegal would have stopped him from buying one? Someone with criminal intent in his mind wouldn\'t have thought twice about whether his murder weapon was legal.

Personally, I abhor guns and want nothing to do with them...but I don\'t see that criminalizing them would stop criminals from buying/owning/using them.

How will anyone ever know? If you criminalise the possession of firearms and offer harsh sentencing for those who disobey, people may get the message. Those that ignore the laws deserve to be locked up.

Burying your head in the sand means that nothing will ever change. Unfortunately, it\'s so ingrained into US culture that it would be impossible to do.... and people obviously need them to protect themselves from terrorists. And aliens:D

And the \'criminal\' in this case appears to be a disgruntled fan:(

Possession of firearms have always been very restricted here in Sweden, and, consequently, a LOT fewer lunatics have access to guns. That doesn\'t mean you can\'t find somewhere to buy a gun, but it\'s a lot more difficult and risky.

The problem is, these laws have existed here very long and if you start restricting gun possession in the States now, the already existing guns wouldn\'t just disappear. There\'s simply no easy solution.

I really don\'t appreciate that last inference, to be honest.

Guns are illegal in England, but there is still gun and violent crime. The murder rate is higher in the US, but assault, burglary, vehicle theft, and robbery all are higher in England. Conviction rates and penalties/sentencing are higher and harsher in the US for *all* crimes, so those who ignore the laws obviously *are* being locked up (here in the States, at least). And that\'s not even looking at rape statistics, where the numbers in England are so bad as to be laughable.

I won\'t dispute that guns are more often used in crime here in the States - it follows reason that they would be, and I think that\'s part of your argument. They are readily available to pretty much anyone. I\'m simply saying that whether they were illegal or not wouldn\'t be a factor in the mind of a criminal intent on using one, and your average John Public has no intention of committing a criminal act with one.

*shrug*

Sorry, have to ring in here with everyone going \'American\'s and Guns ...\'

First off, between my father and I, we own about 30+ guns. Now I can hear the Europeans going \'See, what does that crazy american need with even one, let alone thirty?\'.

Simple, I\'m a gun enthusiast, I hunt, I practice and I do tournament shooting at times and to be practical, I\'m damn good at it. Let me also point out that my wife and oldest child know how to shoot properly as well and take care of the weapons and we have never shot, nor killed anyone, nor do I plan to any time soon.

That being said, we have run off a burgler with the simply slotting of a few shells and me pumping the gun and informing the said individual that he would certainly be kibble (ala dog meat) if he didn\'t decide to crawl right back through that window and lay on the ground till the cops arrived.

But I digress. The problem isn\'t guns - its people and laws. I can make a simple zip gun out of some pipe and some simple household stuff and put a bullet in your arse simple enough without ever \'owning\' a gun.

The whole problem is, we coddle our criminals, put them in pens where they are fed well and given TV and extra ciricular activities (nevermind the occasional arse raping - my thoughts, they deserve it). Hell the average Death Row immate is on the seat for 8-10 years and more than not they get a stay of execution.

Solution - get a bit barbaric. Yeah, easy to say, not easy to do. Dig a hole and drop anyone in that is guilty of murder, rape and other society atrocities. Theft and the like, lock them up and take away basic rights when they get out (beyond what is currently applicable) and you\'ll certainly see criminal activity drop.

Yes guns kill but its the asshole behind the trigger that is the problem. That\'s like saying McDonald\'s makes you fat. Use common sense and and you\'ll keep from killing anyone and keep the waist from becoming a spare tire or three.

Of course, that\'s just my opinion ...

As an aside, this to me is one of the most ironic parts of the whole thing - the shooter was angry that Pantera broke up, so he kills Darell, thereby guaranteeing that the band never ever gets back together.

Moron. :flame:

Jesus f***ing Christ! Didn\'t expect to hear that kind of news! Everyone\'s lamenting the death of Darrell, but what about his brother? Did he die too or did he survive?

I would just like to point out that in the U.S. the areas with the most restricrtive gun laws and harshest penalties for possession and use of firearms are also the areas with the highest amount of gun violence., ie. New Yourk City, Washingon D.C. and Los Angeles. On the other hand, Dallas, where you can get a permit for concealed carry, the gun violence is mluch lower.

It always sounds good to say that if they were criminalized, they would go away. That\'s just not true. Not in this country anyways. States have been passing stricter and stricter gun laws for decades, but the problem has just gotten worse. Solutions are never quite as simple as what sounds good.

BTW I am not a gun owner nor a member of teh NRA or anything of the sort, incase you were wondering.
