Ok I know that just about everyone has their own idea of the perfect game right? I am not starting this thread to rob or expose the ideas that we horde and guard with all our might so no worries there.
What I would like to discuss is what it is, to you, that would make the absolute perfect miniature game line.
SCALE ;
For me I think I am really partial to the larger minis. Those of 55 to 75 mm scale. To me the smaller minis, while they have the great strength of being able to display large numbers in a limited space without crowding, the details are often lax or so finite that they are nigh imperceptible or too minscule to really notice. I REALLY enjoy seeing the work of the artists who sculpt and paint these little treasures, at least here at this site where the image is far larger than the mini actually is.
Personally I feel that with the larger scale there is greater room for detail and realism. Actually even stylization would look better if the minis were somewhat larger in my opinion.
I understand war gaming neccessitates a degree of scale restriction so that IS a very big strong point for small scale minis. And with the long running standard of 25 mm it is hard to just start up a new collection of larger peices when all your gaming ( war or adventure party ) has been done in a smaller scale for ages.
THEME ;
FANTASY all the way for me. I have just never found sci fi to be that compelling compared to fantasy. Sure both have their ristrictions but fantasy just has so much more romance to it IMO.
However there is a literal SEA of untapped theme variants in fantasy gaming and such. Most of the time we see nothing but Euro-centric culture thematics with a bare hand full of asian or middle eastern tid bits thrown in for good measure.
What about Native American, African, South American, Mauri, Southeastern Asiatic, Egyptian, CHinese, or Japanese cultural thematics. Or hell get really creative an dblend a few together for something really unique.
That is about all I can think of at the moment but I will post more as soon as it comes to me. I look forward to reading yours.
