I live on Long Island, therefore I have three great baseball teams a short distance from me, that I can either watch on TV or see in person.
There is of course the New York Yankees in the Bronx.
There is of course the New York Mets in Queens.
And there is the Long Island Ducks!
The (who/what)?
Unlike other sports, Baseball is one of the few sports that can support a heirarchy of leagues. Some of these leagues are farm teams of the major league teams. Two farm teams are in Brooklyn and in Staten Island.
But the Ducks are a part of an independant league known as Atlantic League Professional Baseball (or ALPB).
The team just got a former has been pitcher who didn\'t do any pitching in 2004. Anyone remember John Rocker? (He\'s currently 0-2 by the way and is still as unloved as ever.)
We also have the son of Pete Rose, Pete Rose Jr. playing first base.
And our mascot Quackerjack, who is twice as impressive as Mr Met, in my humble opinion.
And best of all, ticket prices are $9.
