Do you care about American Baseball?

Ok, this has nothing to do with anything even remotely miniatures related, I was just thinking earlier and became curious.

Does anone get into baseball these days? No one I know really gives a flying fart.

yes, very much, even though my team is sucking badly :(

I think in generally when none of your friends are into something, it\'s easy to get the feeling that absoluetly no one is, but I think in this case Baseball is doing very well actually, just maybe not in the gamer-mini painting community. :)

It\'s probably why I don\'t discuss the details of just how badly my team sucks here, since I sort of figured most people were in that not caring catagory...

Well first of all I don\'t like watching any kind of sport, I\'m more of do the sport then watch the sport type of person. And will baseball can be fun to play ( not my favorit sport by far), I personally find it to be one of the most boring sports out there to watch ( well curling comes in first :p).

Try watching Cricket. The best sedative next to reading a Microsoft Technical manual.

Even being a baseball fan, I admit it can be quite boring to watch a single game (I think the quote is that it\'s \"15 minutes of action packed into 3 hours\"). But personally I find baseball inspires a different mindset than most other sports. It\'s almost like it\'s a one 6 month long game with 32 players (teams), and becomes a constant backdrop in life. Every day something is happening, it\'s not big but it keeps building and building. I put on games on the TV as a background to whatever else I\'m doing, not to stare at the TV and only think of the game. Going to games is as much about who you\'re going with, and the atmosphere in the stands as anything going on on the field.

I guess what I\'m saying is that when there are nearly 3,000 games (total) in a season, the excitement is the culmination of that whole experience, rather than any single game. And then the world series games are exciting because they carry that rich background on every pitch. No other professional sport comes close to having so many games played each season.

ok, now I just might be rambling a little, bed time :)

I used to be the biggest baseball fan out there. But now, for some reason it has lost its apeal, call it steroids, millionaires complaning about not making enough money, or Barry Bonds being a jackass. I still keep up with my team, but I guess I have other things to do with my time.

Baseball is another one of those isolationist sports that they play in the US. I know only one person who likes it over here, but he\'s from Bristol which might explain a lot :D

DM of Doom, I\'m with you on this one...

Its sooo boring!

I have only had the privilege once to go to a pro baseball game. (Thank god) I went because it was a school fieldtrip for honor students. By the third inning we were chanting, “We want to Go home,” while the fans chanted “We want Bo!” But yea! IMHO it is sooo boring.

Baseball and basketball are arse spectator sports. US football is ok though (as long as it\'s edited highlights)

Cricket is one of the most brilliant sports games ever conceived. Especially test cricket. 5 days, and it can still be a draw! Chess with bats and a ball, that\'s what it is!

Anything involving wheels, petrol and speed is good too.

But the king is football. I don\'t care what people say about it, footy rules.

I could give a rats ass about proffessional sports. I sometimes watch when a NY team is in the playoffs, and I definately watch when a NY team makes the World Series. Then there was that time BOTH NY teams were in the series... it\'s good to be a NewYorker. :p

I pretty much feel the same way about all other sports, just a bunch of overpaid muscleheads getting payed MILLIONS to play a GAME!

Wouldn\'t it be nice if we got paid that to play OUR games?

Hockey is gone now... does anyone miss it? ???

I think people are more and more getting tired of proffessional athletes whining about pay and getting arrested every other day. If everybody would just stop watching, these bums would have to get real jobs.

Can you imagine someone like Michael Jordan or Derek Jeeter asking you \"would you like fries with that?\"

;):D

Maybe you should tell that to the Japanese, Koreans, Central Americans, Mexicans....

;);)

My daughters are heavily involved in softball (same rules as baseball, larger ball) and I have helped coach their teams in the past few years. This year, though, some of my work buddies and I have formed our own softball team. Nothing better than getting beat by 20 runs with guys you work with!!

As a spectator sport, baseball may be a generation past, but as a participation sport, it is still very much alive.

We had to play Softball at school. The name I never got, got hit in the goolies once and went down with a yelp.

Cricket is the way to go, you need five days of good weather on the trot. Start everyday at 11:00 and finish at about 6:00 and as Spacemunkie said it can still be a draw, it\'s also perfect for our climate;)

I used to play it for my school and had to field at silly point or silly mid off/on. The names kinda give it away, in short I had to stand a few feet from the batsman and try to catch him out if he misjudged a stroke or jump out of the way as a Corkie (like a baseball, maybe harder) whistled past my head.

I live on Long Island, therefore I have three great baseball teams a short distance from me, that I can either watch on TV or see in person.

There is of course the New York Yankees in the Bronx.

There is of course the New York Mets in Queens.

And there is the Long Island Ducks!

The (who/what)?

Unlike other sports, Baseball is one of the few sports that can support a heirarchy of leagues. Some of these leagues are farm teams of the major league teams. Two farm teams are in Brooklyn and in Staten Island.

But the Ducks are a part of an independant league known as Atlantic League Professional Baseball (or ALPB).

The team just got a former has been pitcher who didn\'t do any pitching in 2004. Anyone remember John Rocker? (He\'s currently 0-2 by the way and is still as unloved as ever.)

We also have the son of Pete Rose, Pete Rose Jr. playing first base.

And our mascot Quackerjack, who is twice as impressive as Mr Met, in my humble opinion.

And best of all, ticket prices are $9.

I\'ve followed lots of sports since I was little. Ok...more little than I am now. IMO, baseball is only really at all interesting if you actually follow a team and can recognize players and care at all how they do. I used to watch U of Hawaii baseball a lot...well...most of UH sports actually. Now that I don\'t know the players at all, I can\'t imagine wanting to watch a UH game though.

I follow our local teams, though we haven\'t been doing that well. At least I can cheer for Ichiro. :D
