Do you know what I would do?

Personally speaking I view the whole thing as an entrapment.

Despite my dislike of people who wear fur as a fashion accessory, Beyonce should have had the opportunity to be prepared to counter any arguments raised against her.
As the E=bay acution was (if I recall correctly ) in tended to raise money for Charity then they have also done a dis-service in that, following this episode,
how many other Celebrities who would have auctioned a Dinner Date will now refuse,?

As to Animal Liberation activists, in general the sympathies of the British people have been seriously eroded by the actions of a few extremists. Recent activities of these \"fringe elements\" have been the removal of the corpse of a recently deceased grandmother from her grave in order to attack the remainder of her family who were running a \"Hamster\" farm.

That was an ambush and a set-up - hidden camera and all.

\"Pamela Anderson has narrated a video...\" Now there\'s a real deep thinker.

\"We\'re animal lovers.\" Well, that would be a bit of an understatement. PETA thinks animals should have the same rights as people.

If animals were not intended to be eaten, they would not have been made from meat.

Seriously though, there is plenty of room for animals in this world...right next to the mashed potatoes and gravy.

HA HA!

doomsayer, I like your thinking!

I\'m the first to admit I\'m a carnivore. I like to eat MEAT! Not really fond of the veggies...

\"I didn\'t claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat grass!\"

oh i\'m such a carnivore too, those PETA people are just nutty, i\'d be interested to find out just how many of them are strict about their stance on animal products.

without using animal products they would not be able to use anything made of leather, silk(bugs are animals too right?), wool, suede, fur, meat, dairy, eggs, bone, horn, yogurt(think of the horrible suffering those poor bacteria endure while being destroyed by stomach acid) bread, alcohol(same story as with yogurt, yeast bacteria are animals too) feathers, they shouldn\'t enjoy sports, because football, baseball, basketball and many other sports use balls made from leather, they would never be able to use pest control, or even trim their grass or bushes, because they might kill an insect which would cause it horrible pain, or it might deny a poor baby bird its dinner, causing it to have a tummy ache. While they are at it, we better stop lions from eating gazelle, they usually are alive when the lions start breaking their limbs and tearing out their innards, which must be painful.

Now doesn\'t that sound absurd?
Absolutely

I enjoy eating animals and wearing them and using them as wallets, just like PETA enjoy eating plants and hugging trees, but I don\'t harrass them about it.

PETA is a terrorist organization.

Denis Leary said it best

\"What do you want to eat sir? Brocolli?\"
\"Brocolli is a side dish folks, always was, always will be. I said to him \"What do you think I want, this is America, Goddamnit. Give me a bowl of raw red meat right now! Forget about that! Just bring me a live cow over the table. I\'ll carve off what I want and ride the rest home!\"

If God didn\'t want us to eat meat, why did he make it taste so good.

and what is this about anal electrocution?can\'t they be clubbed like baby seals?

just kidding. seriously, cars kill way more animals than the fur industry, and most people just drive off thinking it was a clean kill. Poor animals suffer in the ditch til they crawl back on the road in front of a really big truck. If they harvested half of the raccoons that I see they wouldn\'t need minks.

but what do I know?

@doomsayer,
Your parade of horribles is even more extreme than PETA\'s. They are not about stopping all suffering, but about stopping the human exploitation of animals. Much of what you say is correct - no leather shoes (canvas and rubber is always popular), no yogurt (since yogurt is a milk-product and therefore the result of exploiting cows, I don\'t think they care about the bacteria since they\'re not animals) - but they don\'t give a damn what animals do to each other so the lion can eat all the gazelles it catches.
Good point about supporting sport though. But then I don\'t think I\'ve ever seen a PETA member at the after-game tailgate party.

Incidentally I think human/animal is a false distinction so I reject the basic premise.

Most of my previous post was sarcasm, I guess it was lost in translation. I agree with ethical treatment of animals, I see no need to torture them, but PETA is a terrorist organization IMHO, plain and simple, and I do not support terrorists.

I hunt, shoot and fish...

But I think I am in tune with animals. I wouldn\'t dream of killing anything I wouldn\'t eat, indeed, ensure that I do eat everything that I kill/catch with the exception of rats and squirrels. I take exception to the fashion fur industry but wouldn\'t condemn an eskimo for wearing polar bear...
My 17 year old dog died at the weekend and I felt like a bit of me had died as well....
The new breed of animal rights activist is \'away with the fairies\' as far as I am concerned and generally doesn\'t have a clue about the basic rules which govern evolution and nature/gaea.
I suspect a lot of them see it as a way to \'celebrity\'.

Yes, you have my condolences. I have a cat on the downward spiral of chronic renal failure and soon may be commisserating.

I think the radical animal rights activists exist because of a problem with our society - we are too separated from our food. If you hunt and dress your own, then you have a better view than most. The rar folks say \"if you knew what went into making that you wouldn\'t eat it.\" For many this is true, but should not be. I\'m well aware of where food comes from, and I think effort should be made to make it as humane as possible. Others will only eat things that are no longer recognizable as animal. It\'s a form of denial, and all denial is harmful.

Has anyone else here tried Cheveal? It\'s like veal, but instead of a calf, it\'s a foal. It\'s also known as \"pony in a box.\";) (PM me for any ensuing hatemail).

Diatribe ahead:
I wonder what the environmental impact of manufacturing, using and disposing of synthetic fibers in place of natural animal counterparts would be. Synthetic materials being made from petroleum products won\'t rot like natural materials. Won\'t a fake fur coat in a dump last for thousands of years? Maybe PETA is secretly being funded/manipulated by the oil companies ;)

PETA seems to be concerned with only the immediate concerns of their animal friends as opposed to having any long term ecological ideals or solutions. I see them as iconoclasts that want to tear something apart without having the ability or desire to build something in its place. I think many of them are in it to seek attention or for a need to do something naughty with the ostensible veneer of civil disobedience and compassion for animals. I had heard that they want to release all domestic and zoo held animals, but they don\'t seem to have any plans for the animals after their abandonment.

A group of animal activists in the UK protesting a Guinea-pig farm stole the body of the farm owner\'s grandmother from her grave in protest of the farm\'s raising of guinea pigs used in scientific research. This is an isolated and extreme incident, but it put me off animal activists for good. I see the extremists as being a bunch of puerile crack pots who are unable to properly relate to other human beings and therefore transfer their feelings of helpessness onto animals wich they rescue in order to enact empowerment fantasies, but that\'s me.
