Chips and cheese, ooh lovely.

As for catsup, I did a bit of research and although it was common synonym in the past, these days most U.S. people spell it ketchup.

That\'s what happens when you get all your knowledge of U.S. culture from Garfield, Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes.

Nonsense, sauce is like fine wine; it only gets better with age, why I have a 3 year old bottle of Heinz Tomato Sauce and I\'m perfectly sane.

Cheesey chips are a big favourite in Cornwall. You can get it just about anywhere. Even posh restaurants will serve up cheesey chips:D

\"cheesy chips\". Just checked recipes. Sounds intersting. I\'ll give it a try next time I\'m at my parent\'s cafetaria. How do you make them in the UK? Deep fried fries, cheese on top and then in the oven to melt the cheese?

Dutch favourite fries/chips sauces: frietsaus (similar to mayonaise), ketchup, curry (spicy ketchup, not the Indian stuff), a frietsaus/ketchup mix with or without other ingredients (pickles, onions), satésaus (peanutbutter based), zigeunersaus (warm soft tomatosauce with onions) and goulash. :)

To get back on topic. I keep my ketchup in the fridge but that because I don\'t use much. In a cafetaria the \"in use\" bottle can be kept outside since it will be finished long before it can go off.

Hmm - Interesting debate, but I\'d like to address a couple o\'points here if I may -

1. I\'m a self respecting Texan from Waco (yup, another Wacko from Waco) and I do enjoy the occassional Hawaiian Pizza (Ham and Pineapple yum)

2. The best way I\'ve found to make the infamous cheese fries (thats cheesey chips to you English Types) is deep fry the chips and then put on shredded cheese and let the heat from the chips melt the cheese. Then dip in Ketchup/catsup/Katchup or better yet, honey mustard salad dressing.

Now I\'m hungry for things I can\'t get over here, damn it!!:D

Hmmmmm page two already of a thread on Ketchup... I fear if I read it, my brains will dribble out of my ear, so I will just inform you that I refridgerate and leave it at that.

Keep it cold!

And when ready to use allow it to warm to room temperature.

As for chips/french fries: Malt vinegar is good on fries (discovery made via Long John Silvers). I also like ketchup, but cream gravy full of pepper with cheese, bacon bits, sour cream and chives is awesome as well. But these I don\'t go dipping in ketchup. Sometimes I just treat fries like a baked potato.

And fries with chile con queso. Mmmmm.

Hmm. I grew up in Oregon and I\'d never heard of putting malt vinegar on french fries until I visited a friend of mine in Canada when I was 18. When she came to visit the next year, she complained that we Americans didn\'t have the right kind of vinegar for that kind of thing..:p I don\'t know what restaurants you\'re going to. ???

Some people put ranch dressing (a kind of salad cream) on their fries (chips) too.

Yum! :)

To chill or not to chill....that is the question....

...and the answer is definitely \"as it comes\" Mine is stored in the kitchen cupboard, together with the salad cream and HP Chilli sauce. It would be \'orrible cold :|~ but even just leaving it in the cupboard doesn\'t exactly make it warm though :D

As it should be Tooshy, as it should be. Look at all the sauce chillers around here though, 2:1 ratio, they must all come from hot places \'casue that\'s the only excuse as far as I\'m concerned.

I can\'t believe you people are putting that stuff into your bodies. lol
Buy some fresh cherry tomatoes, chop finely (add a pinch of salt and sugar) and simmer with a little balsamic vinegar until you can really smell the tomato. Add a few crushed basil leaves and a dash of extra-virgin olive oil then remove from the heat and stir occasionally until cool. There you have it....\"I Can Believe It\'s Not Crapsup!\" Please try it...it\'s simple to make and a better way to eat. In fact I\'m off to make some right now........ ;)

Hot or cold it\'s got to be better than E numbers and red dye :|~

UncleHex your recipe sounds great, I love tomatoes.
But I use hot sauce, on just about everything. I picked it up in the army. If you put enough hot sauce on it, you could eat it!!!lol
Plus if you eat hat sauce it\'s a good reason to follow the meal up with some ice cream or better yet a beer.:D

Just put it in the fridge! And use by the BB date - it\'s there for a reason!!!

If you\'re not getting ill from eating old, warm ketch, then it just shows you how many preservatives it\'s stuffed with!
