Here is a first for me. It is a little project with my sculptor friend Gordy that has been a pure fun fest. Gordy and I sat down late last summer to come up with some fun ideas in a larger painters scale. I'm doing it for the pure joy of getting to paint a green original sculpture (something I have never done before). This is the first one we came up with which is Dr. Freakenstein from the game Quake (a video game from the 80's). We made contact with the designer who was but a kid (15 or 16) when he designed it. He was very excited to see his creation in 3D. That started the second part of the quest, the designer wanted a couple of copies of the sculpture. I don't know how to do anything but paint and Gordy only knows how to sculpt so our project was dead (for this figure at least). Well it wasn't dead for long, little did I know there is a miniature company in my home town with full casting capabilities. I asked if he would make me a few copies to send to the artist and he agreed and asked if he could make 50 copies for a limited run of the figure. Of course I agreed and the project continued. I just got the green back from the caster which is Thunderbird miniatures and am excited to start painting him. I'll get some primer on him this weekend and begin the painting. I thought some might find it a fun project to follow. We have a couple of pretty cool pieces coming up (there's this hunter girl riding a panther that is really cool) and some might be cast in small batches by Thunderbird but I really don't know yet. One large diorama (six figures) in particular I know will only be a green that is painted with no copies. Enough of the back story, here is the green and I hope it is fun to follow. I have to admit I am scared to death to mess him up.
