Drafting a Cmon Army:Banding for charity

Hi Reverend, thanks for the reasoned critique. I p[ersonally have had experience with the monster known as e bay. A few imes I have been disappointed at the low price, then again I have also been stunned at what people will pay.

Yes this is a risk, and we may end up with an army that is barely more than the base cost. Yes this may be just a gesture to feel good. I can currently buy single painted figures put up for auction, I can currently buy specially sculpted figures. I can donate money walking down the street, through the cash register at my local supermarket, or direct from my pay.
Indeed my government is sending a huge contribution with my taxes.

I still wish to do this as well. I can\'t come up with a sane rational reason, I just know it is not every day that twenty to thirty people worldwide try to coordinate themselves into a single project with no thought of gain. It is a gamble, and one that may pay off. I for one am happy to go ahead.

I will continue to give money by the other channels open to me (mentioned above), please don\'t begrudge me trying to cooperate with others and spending $20-$40 to participate in a project that has barely started.

Regards
PP

I would appreciate it if you would not make such a comment again. I am just excited about the prospect of this, so dont ruin it for me.

Sorry mate, I thought it was about compassion, not your excitement. Am I missing something?

You seem to be more into self-edification than compassion. Sorry mate, that\'s the way I see it.

Crunch time

OK, I think everyone has had time to put forward their feelings, and I dontt hink peoples minds are going to change on wheher they think this is a good idea or not. When it comes to the crunch, there are a number of people here willing to donate time to a cause that they feel is worth it. They may not be able to donate huge wads of cash, but they can be part of something that may contribute a whole lot more. I still feel that the whole effort will be greater than t he sum of its parts.

We have artists involved whose minis sell for small fortunes anyway - when was the last time JRN had a mini on ebay? There are some real names involved. People will pay.

But now is the time we need to make a decision. There is no shame in not being involved, but dont pull down others who want to participate. This would be a good excercise and fun, even if there was no money involved. This is a risk, but a risk i am willing to take. Anyone else who is up for it, we will get going soon.

I do appreciate your imput Rev, and I urge people not involved in this to follow some of your advice - this is an important cause and any money we can give is going to be snapped up. But This has gone too far to turn back now, so onward we shall go... but relax, and enough with the \'polite insults\' - take it to PMs if you must

No more flaming, time to get who\'s painting what sorted... we have had a little council of war tonight involving TAB, IPM, Green Stuff, Tammy and myself and we should have more concrete details on wednesday!

frenchkid, you\'re missing the point. It isn\'t a \'project\'. It\'s peoples livelihoods.

Get your head out of your derriere!

Last time I checked it was firmly on my head, then again might have missplaced it again
And I guess my knowledge of english is faulting me here because when people get together to accomplish somthing I believe it can be called a project, would be gald you find a better world to enriche my vocabularie.
I checked for livelihoods but it isn\'t in my dictionary (got to get a bigger one ), could explain it ?

Well its not everyday that you see such a collection of people here willing to do this.

For God\'s sake if that\'s the way you see it I\'ll go.

No, forget that, Im not leaving because of your little remarks. That is your opinion, you are entitled to it, but I am entitled to mine, and that is how I feel.

I like te fact that people are coming together for this, that is all.

Fair point Pete, just make sure you get things going. I\'m not pulling people down, just making the point that people seem to be putting their own good vibes over the root of what the \'project\' is about. It would seem more beneficial to have a two-pronged attack on cash (pot one) and individual minis with funds from those minis going to the second pot. People are talking as if the doing is important even if it only breaks even. I\'d say that\'s a nonsense. If people are interested in doing something, it should yield a benefit for the people it serves. Do you think people who have lost homes and family members are going to thank some mini-painters who tried but failed (should the case arise - and I hope it doesn\'t) to make money for them because they went a very long way about trying to raise cash?

Come on Pete, don\'t confuse the issues. Read my first post, not the subsequent retorts. And good luck mate. Genuinely :).

you are most definetly forgiven.
And Afer looking in my trusty dictonarie what we are doing is a project. These people need money and we\'re doing what we can to provide them with the most of it.

I\'ll just add a small though. I\'m part of a representative board of student at my highscool and I\'m mostly in charge of trying to collect and sensibilies people about what happen in asia. Giving money is a good thing, and the more then ever need it now. But giving money is also an easy thing, I already have given 50$ and it took me a couple of seconds, didn\'t have to think much about it. What we are doing is somthing that requires commitment, somthing that showes we really are doing this because we care. And that sort of commitment is also needed. We cannot gove money away and then turn our back and go back to our small buisness saying all is good now. That\'s not the truth, this is going to take years to clean up, and people are going to need time to recover from this. That is why commitment is more important to me then money. And that is the message that I\'m trying to get through at my high school. Money is a immediate and necesary thing, but it\'s not the most important thing to those peope over there who have lost everything. It\'s hard to explain but I\'ll take the exemple of a homeless personne who is far more pleased if you take the time to talk to him and consider him rather then dump money at his feet without looking. And yes that is not a prefect exemple but I can\'t find better right now. I pray you understand the light in wish I\'m trying to do this, not for money as such but for hope.

Hi Revrend, I don\'t expect a thank you at all. What is going to be more important is who is there in the long haul. Who will be donating money in 6 months when this is no longer on the news?

I am donating the most precious commodity I have, my time.

Reverend:
You\'ve argued your case very clearly and with a logical stand from your point of view. I respect your honesty in this. However, As with everyone else in this endeavour I want it to go ahead!

I\'ve been pimping the concept with my local GW retail, Modellers & Painters I know outside of CMON. So far the responses have been positive. In some cases the offer of support has been to supply figures. I see this as a vindication that our objective has merit.

If GW come on board to support or sponser then great. If not, then it goes ahead by the efforts of all of us involved.
Personally, I hope Corporate GW do act as Humans for a change, but I will not loose any sleep on their behalf if they do not.

By all means point out the pit falls and we will endeavour to avoid them, give advice, assistance and hopefully support. But please do not turn what has developed from an earnest desire to help, by the use of our talents, into a bun fight.

It\'s not the fact that we are attempting to make a huge amount of money, but that would be nice, It\'s the community act of doing something to benefit others. Every little helps, there are no Bob Geldorf\'s , no Lionel Ritchie\'s, no Mother Theresa\'s here, only people with some talent, skills enthusiasm and the desire to help.

Ctan, calm down. I\'m stating that the tsunami victims need cash, not good vibes from us.

If anyone is serious about helping and raising cash, the most obvious thing to do would be to try and find the best way to get the cash without it slipping away here there and everywhere. Common sense. If it\'s a project first and a potential donation fund as a secondary matter, fair enough. Just thinking which is the most important, you know?

frenchkid, that\'s a totally humanitarian view and one I\'d support. It\'s just that the line wasn\'t drawn clearly originally.

edit *same to you as well paintingploddy :)*

Mike, I\'m with what you say. Just don\'t want the scheme to blur the objective.

Good luck mate, and a good angle with obtaining free minis. Try and get Royal Mail to deliver free as well!

edit *aAnd I ain\'t throwing buns! You should know me better than that :)*

I know.

The two posts above yours outline what I\'m trying to say.

I just dont appreciate the assumption that the honour and \'excitement\' I am feeling is some sort of self-edification as you put it.

We\'re all in the same boat trying to do their bit. I just took your comments the wrong way.

We should see this to the end. It is our little bit that\'s all. It\'s an unusual way of doing this...

Obviously, that\'s not the point, but it makes people NOTICE. That is another major factor.

OK, good good.

Well.

I think apologised to everyone a couple of pages back about my posts.

Please don\'t misinterpret my posts if they seem a bit \'excitable\' or childish. That\'s the way i post sometimes.

I appreciate you realism and views however.

I think we should just put this entire scenario behind us and look to the case at hand though.:)

I for one will stay positive...no matter.
I shall continue forward ... no matter.
I will try to make lemonade from lemons.
I do not believe in accidents : the positive from this may be of assistance in ways we are not aware and we may never be.
You donate kindness for no reward no reason just because the sky is blue.
