Dwarf Engineer - my first!

Hi!
I never thought I would paint a dwarf, and never have before (except from Alfonse\'s backpack lol), but thanks to a commission I got to paint this engineer. And I just loved it! I\'m actually thinking of doing a dwarven diorama when I get the time, I just love the little fellas. Strange huh, becasue I really hated them before...

Anyhow, he\'s standing on the top of a mountain in this little scenic base:

Incredible, I really like the NMM. The reds are well rendered and look very natural. I gotta say that this may be the best GW dwarf that I have seen. I also like the simpleness that is the base, very appropriate.

A clear 10 for me! :D

BTW Dwarves RULE! :p:flip::D

Lovely work Astonia :). The cheeks could have benefited a slight highlight IMHO, but I still gave you a 9 ;). As always, awesome NMM :D.

How do you paint gems so good?
Anyway, great mini as always. I like the gems(of course...) and the weapon especially.

I think the color of the silver NMM starts to blend in with the rock a little. On one hand, this may be fitting (he\'s a dwarf, after all). On the other, perhaps the rock could have had more brown in it...just so the mini doesn\'t get lost on such a large base. Speaking of the base, the part he\'s mounted on seems to have a different style than the rest of it...did you just paint it at different times and forgot what you did (happens to me all the time)?

Now that\'s a DWARF

Very, very nice work Astonia. I voted and left a comment. Glad to hear that you have a new found appreciation of the little folk. They\'re my personal favorites. :D

Cheers,

Very nice indeed! I like the slightly muted color scheme, and bright gems really stand out. Well done!

P.S. Now the High Elves must be really mad ...

Astonia:
That\'s beautiful. Even for a Dwarf.
I think that this is your best piece.

A pure 10, in my book. (Looks around for Ladies sized Hammer!)

Astonia, you brat you! Not only did you do a dark rider in the manner that I\'ve been trying for ages to get right (and have inspired me to try again), but now you actually get me interested in trying a stuntie? Bah! I\'ll be blaming you for more unfinished painting projects than I can claim.

You\'re starting to become like Wappellious, spawning classy minis like a giant sprinkler! ;) I voted and left you a little comment! :) Now, I\'m off home to test my brand new Testors Dullcoat... :D

Thanks for the nice comments!

The base is actually made of two pieces, the large base from cork and the small base from an eraser. I did that because it\'s easier to carve out exact shapes in the eraser, but the cork is easier to use in large quantities.

The gems are just regal blue, enchanted blue and ice blue. I highlight them to almost white towards one end and then place a small white dot for reflection in t he other.

The high elves are seriously mad...not only is he a dwarf, but he\'s on higher ground too!

Ritual, thanks again for the tip. I\'ll have to call CSN and threaten them so I get my money soon, and then Roffes Modellflyg will make a lot of money lol

Oh and DR, I\'m 183cm tall, the Lady hammer is no threat

Good luck! CSN is populated by governmental robots with a complete lack of normal human behaviour. They are completely unable to relate to the conditions people live under, and if there is even a hint of a rule they follow it to the point of idocy. Sorry about this little rant, but I\'ve been a student too, once, and my girlfriend is currently studying without any support from CSN. In other words: I pay for everything!

Hee, you just get better and better with your post Elf work. Especially with your NMM usage.

To be brutally honest, I didn\'t really care for the Elves. They were nicely done, but after the first few, I got tired of seeing them. It must have driven you nuts actually painting them. <chortles>

The Dwarf is much more impressive, no contest (and that\'s from someone who doesn\'t normally like Dwarves :D). Good solid nine from me.

Well I seem late to this thread!

But Anja you\'re definately challenging Wappy for volume of minis painted at such a high level in such a short time. And no one better hammer her!

ok, so stupid american question...how tall is 183cm ???

@margo don\'t listen to them, I know they do actually come alive, and that the elves probably are pissed :p

Anja the only problem I see with the dwarf is the lighting in your photo, it seems very dark and subdued, and not showing off your highlights.

183cm is exactly 6 feet I think(could be 5,11 maybe)

That dwarf looks great Anja ! I\'ve always wanted to paint those engineers, the scheme works out great and the NMM is great. I gave it a 9 :)
