Dwarf Heroes

These are the Heroes for my dwarven army:

Lord
Army Standard
Master Engineer
Master Runesmith

If your thinking \"The skin and beards look good, as does the lords cloak, but the rest looks rushed.\" Then your thinking accuratly describes the work as I originally intended to paint these all to a display standard but changed my mind part way through as I was getting frustrated.

The Standard Bearer won 2nd place at GW Conflict in Halifax.

As per usual votes and comments are welcome, but just keep in mind I didn\'t give the armor and accessories \"my all\".

I\'m rather happy with my \'army painting\' which picks up high 6s to low 7s so it\'s my \'display painting\' which I really need to work on. I\'ve just painted to a high quality army standard for so many years it\'s hard to break the bad habits it creates.

If you missed them and care to see how my army is progressing you can check these out (I\'ve posted both in previous Discuss threads I think):

Thunderers
Cannon

The cannon won 1st place in the Open category at the GW Conflict in Halifax (it was a poor showing for the painting contest).

Next I\'ll be working on the Warriors from the Skull Pass box set, then back to the Dwarf Army box I bought, likely the unit of slayers.

Good jobs all of them! You\'ll have a great looking army! I especially like the beard of the runesmith for some reason! :) The lord is also very nice. I think that the green cloak could have used something. Following the lead from another thread.. a simple line at the bottompart of it might do the trick.

I think the photos have a tad deep shadows so that details are obscured. if you direct light on a piece of white paper directly on front of the mini, it will bounce up and light up the shadows. You can also lighten the mini more in photoshop or a similar application.

Ooh, great tip on the lighting. I\'ve been struggling with the photography for a few weeks now. My pictures today are much better than they were but I still have a lot of room for improvement with it. It\'s mostly the lighting as you noticed and I can\'t wait to try the reflecting thing. I\'m wondering if the light blue material I\'m using now is light enough to reflect and possibly all I have to do is move the mini\'s back further to get more reflecting light (I currently place them right on the edge of the table with the camera about 1\" away).

Dang, I keep getting the more highlights suggestion and I keep \'thinking\' I have done so, but I think there\'s a secret hidden fear of going to far.

Iv sometimes took photos where the higlighting doesnt show at all so iv went back and painted on some really extrem highlights just so they show in the photos. Worth it for the scores but they end up looking a bit day-glo IRL lol

Nice work did the vote thing. I think a single bigger shot would be better than the four angles you take but that just my opinion.
