\'Eavy Metal trainee figure painters

I have an 18 year old son and he asked me what kind of job he should get just recently. I told him this

You can train for years for a carreer in fine art and work at a job you hate and still end up broke. You could get a job in an office and not have much money and be miserable. Why not do what you love, make as much as you can at it, end up \"poor\" anyway but be happy? You can\'t buy happiness. Most of us are miserable bastards. Only a miserable person would question someone\'s choice of carreer based on joy. Sounds like jealousy to me.

WOW! that was quite harsh, and from what you sound like and what the \'Eavy metal guys(and gals) are like, you seem to be the one with th \'unsatisfactory\' job, because why else would you lash out like that for no reason if you didn\'t have something on your mind?

by the way the pearson who gets this is gunna be really lucky...

you need to do this for younger people, but during the holidays, like masterclass.

I would have to agree. I also understand that bitterness can be caused by one\'s inability to engage in activities that they may enjoy because they do not have the proper requirements to do so.

There is so much more to life than money, and I have realised that job satisfaction is really important.

A year ago I took a pay cut to go from working in Planning for Coventry city council to being a full timer in GW Coventry and I have never looked back!!!Doing something you absolutley love and are really passionate about for a living top trumps a job that pays better but destroys a tiny little piece of your soul every day you are there!!! And for the naysayers out there (you know who you are!) Yes, I manage to live comfortably from my wage and support my wife and son. We are even planning a second child.

This is an absolutley fantastic opportunity, and experience that money cannot buy. If I thought I was up to scratch I would stick in a portfolio myself!

This is something I can personally attest to*. There\'s nothing like watching Dave bouncing round the shop, squealing like a little girl when anything new comes in.

* not the second child bit!

I do know that the offending poster did work for GW..... maybe sour grapes?

Anyway how have you eavy metal guys got time to post? Shouldn\'t you all be painting for ebay to supplement your meagre pay, how can you afford the electric for your pc\'s and a phone line for the net?

lol. Multifracture seems to of gone a bit quite!!

What i cant work out is why some one who likes painting minutures would slate the EM team?? Don\'t quite get that.

I would absolutely love that job so even though I don\'t think I have the skills I\'m going to give it a go. Even if I don\'t get the job it will be a solid month of practice before I enter, which will give me more experience at least.

Yes quiet or i actually have other things to do rather than hang about on forums doing nothing but replying to a pointless thread.

However i would like to thank everyone that jumped on this particular band wagon. If you guys really didn\'t agree with me you wouldn\'t have become so defensive and exposed personal situations in order to make your argument more persuasive. Text book. Thanks again guys

Thought i\'d add here that in 2002 i was invited to join the Eavy Metal team after working for GW for 2 years. I quit shortly after realising i was wasting my life.
