Yeah, slow day at work. Thanks. In an imaginary poll I was recently voted Canada\'s 5th most likeable person! But I really, really hate it when people use the net as a place to make complete asses of themselves and potentially bring my hobby into disrepute. There is a definite stigma attached top mini painting and gaming and people like multifracture are doing everything they can to perpetuate it. He\'s the reason why I was able to tell my current wife about my midget fetish on the first date, but had to wait until about the fifth date to tell her about my warhammer obsession so I didn\'t scare her off right away.
It amazes me, I was involved in the \"Capital Punishment\" thread, a topic where most everyone has a strong yay/nay opinion and everyone was getting along so well. Here now a dude from GW puts up a link for what most would consider a dream job (or at least a very cool job) and some macaroon starts blasting away at how people who would consider that job will never own a house or blah blah. What the HELL...
But back on topic (or near as I\'ll get) I would not be able to paint mini\'s for a living. I do sort of work for GW as part of their Grey Knight volunteer program and from time to time I have to paint stuff either for games day assignments or the starter box sets as part of the requirements of the program. It\'s like driving knives into my skull!!! I don\'t know what it is, I LOVE painting figs (And this site has helped me catapult from a 5.2 painter into the low 6\'s baby!) but the instant I HAVE to do it I just hate it. I have the utmost respect for people who can go to work and be creative day after day without their job weighing on them. \'Eavy metal turns out top notch stuff, and I just can\'t imagine being there every day and not trying to cut corners.
Blatant GW plug spoiler warning: My hat\'s off to \'eavy metal for being a first rate inspiration to me (Though this website is really growing on me fast....) in my continuing love of the warhammer hobby.
Perhaps more money can be made in another field. Love of what you do will make you much happier in the short term, and definetly the long term. Some years ago my buddy got his computer whatever degree and carpet bombed the world with resume\'s (CV\'s to you european wierdos!) and was told that LucasArts paid about 20% less than the other positions he applied for because candidates were known to be applying for a company they really wanted to be a part of. \"Dude, I would work for free to make Star Wars shit.\" was what he said. I think some people may feel similar to a \'Eavy Metal painting gig. I like my job, but I love my hobby more. I just know I couldn\'t turn one into the other and have it be the same.
So no, I won\'t be applying for the job. And it\'s not just lack of brush skills for me. But future congrats to whoever makes it and I look forward to being blown away by their work month after month. Salut!
