30k is way off. Try 24k. The average HOUSEHOLD income is only 32k...

Not quite sure where you\'re getting the figure for nurses as well. Try 20-26k for staff nurses depending on experience....

I now know what GW are offering and I was far from impressed when I found out. I\'m sure a spotty teenager licking envelopes on the reception of an office would earn more. GW make me sick :|~

Not sure where GMB are getting their figures from, but you just have to go to the UK government statistics site and the NHS payscales page to realise that they\'re a wee bit spurious....

It\'s become the word of mouth topic of choice! I\'ll PM you as I feel I\'d be breaching a trust if I posted it across this thread...

By the way though, I found a thread from almost 6yrs ago and look at what it was about:

\"It ain\'t worth it!

I hear the going rate is 11,000 p.a. in the UK right now. It\'s not right! I can\'t believe they can only offer that much to the best painters (though I believe the standard has dropped big time in GW). Maybe I am misquoting here. Maybe it was Trainees? Maybe in-store?

All the same...\"

As you can see, that was me replying to someone about GW (reckons he was an ex-Eavy Metal employee). The going rate being bandied for a painter back then was £11k. It ain\'t all that much more 6yrs on. Honest.

Anyone considering coming to live in the UK on that wage would want to do some SERIOUS research into the cost of living in Britain...

I\'ve been working for years to get Wales physically separated from the mainland, just like on Have I Got News For You a few years ago (classic intro, Wales sailing off with a palm tree on it) :D

The trainee wage is only untill you finish the training program and then become an established painter with a new wage.
Get your applications in, time\'s running out!

It\'s funny how I manage to afford to go travelling several times a year and at the same time really enjoy my life. I don\'t even dread monday mornings, because I have a job I absolutely love. And I even like living in Nottingham  ;). I can think of a million jobs that would make me unhappy, whereas this one actually makes me happy. I\'d recommend it to anyone :)

Definitely the best reason to work in my opinion. It\'s great having a job that you love doing. Money is obviously an important factor but I wouldn\'t make it my sole reason for choosing a job. The wage is bound to improve as it\'s advertised as a trainee position. From what I\'ve read here, the GW painters seem a fun bunch so if you can face the daunting prospect of painting minis 5 days a week you\'ll probably have a great time!

Having said that, the prospect of living in Nottingham would put me off :D Derbyshire\'s far nicer ^^

Well I paint minis full time, with commissions and ebay it works out well for me.
Sometimes it can be a little intence when your eyes go funny and you know its time to take a ciggy brake with a nice cuppa.

I would love to get a job at GW painting in the eavy metal team, but it would meen a move to Notingham and I couldn\'t expect the missis and little one to make a move like that. If only they did freelance!!!
