ebay: winning bidder does not respond to my mails

Hey,

Last tuesday my very first auction on ebay was finished, but since then I haven\'t heard a thing from the auction winner... :(

In my item description I explicitely stated the auction winner should contact asap and that payment should be received within 3 weekdays... I have sent several e-mails, but without a reply.

How long do I have to wait to give another bidder a second chance offer? I know ebay says numbers like 7 weekdays to cancel a transaction, but remember I have stated in my description that I wanted payment within 3 days. I just want to cancel my transaction with that user and send a second chance offer to someone else, but I\'m afraid of receiving a negative feedback from the current auction winner... And my current feedback score is only 1 because of an item I bought. The other problem is that I\'m completely new to ebay, so I could use some good advice.

Thanks a lot!

Another thing: the winning bidder has a feedback profile of 18, without any negatives, so I think he can be trusted, right?

I would probably give it some time. People are on summer holiday, so he might not be at home. I usually give my winning bidders 10 days to get their butts in motion (most people don\'t read the description in the auction anyway...).

I don\'t know if it is available anymore, but have you tried sending a payment reminder? You should be able to do it from your \"my ebay\" page.

Another thing you can do it requesting his contact information. People usually get really scared when you do this :D

If he doesn\'t contact you in a few days, drop me a line (you have my e-mail addy, right?) and I\'ll give you the links you need to follow to get the money you paid for the listing back, ok? :)

Okay, thanks.

My main concern is that I leave on holiday on the 2nd of August for three weeks, and I really want to complete the transaction before I leave.

i had a bizarre incident on selling an item recently, id received no payment and it had been 6 weeks so i relisted and sold the item. a few days later i received his payment(the original buyer) via paypal, it was a bit of a pain because i had to refund him, i have had only one non paying before and they had a feedback rating of 0. its like jeneva says sometimes it takes them a while to send payment even when you instruct you want payment quickly

have you tried sending them an email stating that youre going on holiday on 2nd and if they dont pay by then they will have to wait for you to return b4 you can dispatch, that way you cover your back as well as hopefully prodding them into action

Been there, done that

Cor, When I sold of my MTG cards, I had a couple of no pays (one was a 0 with bogus email - the other has about a 20 pos rating, just dissapeared). Ebay has an option for that. You can relist the item for free once you have gone through the no pay section.

Send email with the \"request read receipt\" option (in tools) so you can see if he reads it.

Out of about 100 sales, I had these two. I don\'t feel that that was too bad.

I had a third back out due to my shipping charges. After I explained that his $1 card cost me $0.25 in fees (ebay & paypal), plus a $0.50 padded mailer plus about $0.50 in postage, he understood and paid me.

Also, and this is just my 2cp, most Ebay auctions that I\'ve ever seen allow 10 days for payment after the end of the auction. To be honest, this person might not have even read the description where you ask for payment in three days (which, IMO, is a bit quick). I agree with Jenova that you probably should give it a little more time.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ebay. *note sarcasm* :)

yes, this is all completely new to me :p

and you\'re right, 3 days is maybe a bit too fast... I might change that into two weeks (or 10 weekdays) with my next auction

another question: when I choose to send a second chance offer to another user that has been bidding on my item, do I have to pay the final value fee again? Or is relisting a better option?

Thanks everyone!

I\'ve never had a buyer not pay, but I have had buyers take bloody forever to send payment. Just like some of them who take an age to leave feedback! It\'s just a complete lack of internet etiquette in my opinion. I know people lead busy lives and don\'t get to check their e-mail every day, but come on, you\'d think that someone who\'s just bought an item on Ebay (that you\'d assume they do really want!) would be interested in completing the transaction! In some cases I\'ve had to wait up to 2 bloody weeks for a buyer to finally send payment, without any explaination for the long wait. When they see their inbox has half a dozen mails from you requesting money or feedback, you\'d think they\'d realise how lax they\'ve been. I reckon it\'s due to the internet being so impersonal. People can just hit a button and forget about you until it suits them. Now if their phone number was given to the seller, they\'d soon jump if they got a call out the blue asking them where the money is!

I might be ranting a bit here, but it really pisses me off when buyers can\'t be arsed to give prompt replies and payment. If I buy someting on Ebay I usually contact the seller personally as well and send payment as soon as I know exactly how much is needed, and how payment is to be made! Maybe I\'m too considerate.

Damn slackers!

Aaaaaand... relax....

I\'ve sold hundreds of items on ebay and had lots of varied and irritating experiences (probably caused a couple too :duh: ) ... I don\'t think you need to worry too much just yet Corvus... but good luck :)

I guess I\'m lucky. I have never had to wait more than a week before I got paid :)

But you can get their phone number :D

If you are involved in a transaction with someone on ebay you can \"request their contact information\". That will give you their address and phone number.

Just follow this link and type in the ID of your buyer. Voila; Phone number :)

Ebay will send them an e-mail saying that their contact information has been sent to you. I\'ve had to request contact information for sellers two times, and both times, the sellers contacted me right after (maybe they didn\'t want a call :D )

And if they don\'t have a valid phone number/ address/ e-mail you can report them and get them kicked out of ebay.....

CMON identities V eBay identities

It occurs to me that loads of people from CMON buy and sell on eBay. When I search eBay I have a list of favourites etc I regularly check but to my knowledge the only name on my list I recognise from CMON is Arjay (and I can\'t afford his work anyway).
Would there be any mileage in a thread that just detailed people\'s eBay identities or should regular sellers just include this in their CMON biog?
What do sellers think?

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think a lot of people are in the same situation as me; somebody had already used my name  so I had to be jenova! ... you know .... with a \"!\", which is pretty cool except that I sometimes forget it myself :duh:

A new thread would be a cool idea, though it would probably be forgotten after a little while?

True, but regulars would at least know it was there, buried in the background, and it would get resurrected every time someone like our friend Corvus took the plunge.

I will kick it off and see what happens. Can\'t do any harm other than bore people to tears for a few seconds?

Okay, I\'ve just sent the payment reminder and requested this guy\'s contact information... let\'s hope he responds this week :(

Another question: if he hasn\'t paid by, let\'s say, the end of the week, could I just send him a mail saying something like \"no payment recieved in time, the transaction is cancelled\"? Or will this result in a negative feedback from that user?

And IF this transaction ends okay, should I give him a negative feedback review?

Thanks.

e-bay thing

Corvus,
it\'s your ball. if you wanna be a jerk, hammer the guy, just remember what goes around.......
i\'m pulling up on 1000 transactions and have had around 10 \"scrapes\".
in your next auction list your \"terms\" as 3/14 day. 3 days for contact, 14 to days to pay.
remember if you wanna be a jerk, it is a legal contract!
good luck, let us know how it goes!

In my item description I have put up some timings: 1 day for the buyer to contact me, 3 days to recieve payment. Okay, I admit this isn\'t very much, but it is there, right?

I don\'t have any problems with ending the transaction, I\'m just afraid I\'m going to receive negative feedback... with a current score of 1 this is going to be 50% negative feedback :( and a score of 0... who is going to do business with me then?

Thanks.

Before you get mean!

How about sending a message to the bidder-up by makeing a second chance offer? Sure it might not be the same price but the money still comes in...

This way you don\'t get upset :flame: and you don\'t need to leave a negitive feedback...

Good Luck and best wishes!
