Does it make you :( or  when you see somebody on Ebay post their minis that look like they painted them with a crayon and call them \"pro painted\" minis? Is there a standard for \"professionally painted miniatures?\" Can\'t they get into trouble for false advertising or something? Just thought i\'d bring it up.

\"pro\" painted usually is an indication of piss poor painting (unless your name is Tammy Haye), anyone can call themselves a pro, so its generally avoided by the better painters.

Golden Demon winner is much better thing to be able to say.

I will only look at auctions that are titled \"Pro Painted\" or \"Expertly Painted\" if I am at work. My reason is thus - at home I have a 56K modem, and at work I have a T1. I won\'t even waste the bandwidth time on my own computer to laugh at other people. Maybe I\'ve just become lazy.

My boyfriend only considers very very few people to be pro painters. The requirements are: must have won at least a silver demon, and must make a consistent income from painting minis. Their life must revolve around painting and selling in order to make a living. People like Jen Haley (all hail) fit his definition of a pro painter.

I just like to pull up \"pro painters\" for a laugh ever so often.

I agree that \"pro painted\" items on ebay are more often crap than what the title wants to make you believe.

As with all things there are varying levels and quality of Professionals. At one end there are the likes of Tammy Haye and Jen Haley and the other end are people who churn out 20 mini\'s a day to make a living.
It\'s the same with Professional Footballer players some are top league and some play professionally, but are not in the same league.

As I consider myself a reasonable painter I certainly will not be classifying what I am going to put up on Ebay as \"Pro-Painted\". :D

It\'s a good job I don\'t use the pro-painter tag when I auction my minis then isn\'t it? I\'ve never even entered Golden Demon so don\'t hold the all important silver award! (I don\'t really care to spend a day at GD just to see if I can win an award! I\'d love to enter, but I\'m a very lazy man.). I do however meet all the other requirements!

As well as pro-painted, be wary of anyone who claims to have painted for GW. I\'ve noticed quite a lot of people who like to make a point of doing that. They haven\'t necessarily worked on the Eavy Metal team though. What they should say is that they once knocked up a few figures for their local store in their spare time! Just a small but important point! Also people who mention they entered a particular model into the GD awards but no mention of an actual award! Entering the model has no kudos whatsoever. If it hasn\'t won anything, don\'t mention it!

The whole point of putting stuff up on ebay is to sell it. The first step to selling it is having someone look at the auction. Now I may not agree that a mini is pro or not, but who is going to look at an auction that says \"poorly painted\".

What pisses me off more are people who put golden demon in their titles and who haven\'t even etered nor had any chance of winning had they.

So perhaps \"reasonably painted\" should be the new term to identify the good stuff on eBay.

Woa!
That I haven\'t seen yet! Is that a recent development?

I\'ll stick with the plain and simple \"Painted\" in the titles! As long as the minis sell, I\'m happy. I was going to consider myself a professional painter, (though never a pro-painter!) but then there\'s that Silver Demon requirement ya listed and I only have a Bronze Golden Demon (never did figure out how to say it all properly). I\'ll just let the figures sell on their own merit. Some are game table pieces and some are display quality, but either way, as long as someone pays and gives them a good home, I\'m a happy mini painter with a mini-painting business.

Or maybe we should start putting \"better than pro-painted\"? \"Nicely painted\"? \"Paid Painter\"? \"Ult-Painted\"? ....

Of course, if we come up with a new term it will just be misused like \"pro\" so that\'s not a solution. I haven\'t sold for a while, but I think I said \"well painted.\" However, since it\'s all subjective, maybe I should just stick with \"painted\" and not worry about it.

Wow, I don\'t see the relevance of getting someone pregnant, regardless of what a nice figure she had.

It usually makes me go lol when I look at the pics, some of it\'s okay, but most the time it looks like the average wargamer, just painted it with the thickest paints, no highlighting and bad priming job with a Gobbo green base, OR it has a really lousy pic taken from a meter away.

But I don\'t really care, since I don\'t plan on selling on ebay in the near future(there\'s like 4 or 5 years till I\'m allowed to get a credit card:] )

Then I might go :p

For the most part, I don\'t even read titles of auctions - I look at the gallery preview and the price.

For my own auctions, I simply use \"Painted XYZ\"

If you are a \"pro\" your pictures will communicate that to the customer more than words can.

I\'ve seen several people who try to promote that they are GW painters. Looking at their stuff though, you can tell that they are just cashiers at a GW store trying to make a buck. A guy at one of the northern Virginia stores a few years back actually told me that GW only hires pro painters to work in the stores, so they can show people how to paint. I asked if he had painted any of the minis in the display case...he said he had painted most of them.

Kid you not, these minis would struggle to reach a 6.0 here.

I wasn\'t trying to insult anyone earlier who may say that they are pro painters. But I still don\'t consider someone who churns out armies right and left a pro painter. They paint for a living, yes. And kudos to them for having the ambition and patience to do that. And if you can paint tons of minis and paint them well, hallelujah...you are a saint. Seriously.

Pro painter to me implies a high level of painting ability and sophistication. I think I paint well, but I would never call myself a pro painter. I have used the phrase \"well painted\" within the auction itself. Like someone said, let the minis speak for themselves.

Darn...

I thought \"Pro painted\" just implied that they used Pro Paints from Reaper, since from what I can see it has almost nothing to do with the level or skill of the painting. Please don\'t get too upset, or call for some type of ban or moritorium on this term, since I derive hours of twisted, sick pleasue viewing alll the \"Pro painted\" minis for sale on eBay. I especially like when they go for big money and as it was said earlier, they look like they were painted with a crayon. It just goes to show you that Stevie Wonder and the late Ray Charles must be wargammers and buyiing on eBay too!!!!

Like Jarrett, I\'ve used words like \"High Quality Painted\", \"Showcase Quality\" or \"Gaming Quality\" in my item titles, but this is just to state the quality level I wanted to achieve, this has nothing to do with me calling myself a good (pro?) painter. My advice: keep it clear and informational.
